Hi all.

I'm looking for some 3 inch
manila rope for "hanging rope" whacking, since 2 inch is really no challenge. I can't believe I'm, saying this, but the med-to-large Busse Combat group knives have no trouble with 2 in rope, once they are convexed.

Does anyone have a source for 50 feet or so?

the video of a demo kicking around was done using 3 inch rope, wasn't it?

I emailed Busse with the same question.

Thanks!

Hey Tom,

I haven't found anything locally but when I googled it about a week ago there were a couple places selling 3" on-line. I just haven't ordered any yet. I'll see if I can find those sites again. :)

BTW: Killer avatar. ;)

I spent a couple of hours on Google before I posted. Nobody would sell less than a spool. Must be looking for rope in all the wrong places.

Thanks, Tyrkon! Gotta love Alice!

Boat supply places in coastal cities, think Auto parts for boats, Rope with which to tie up a pretty large Boat, Mooring line, they sell nylon as well.

his website seems a bit hoaky to me but what do i know////

It's hard to tell what is legit and what is for show. But I meant I like seeing the knife in use. Although a vid would have been better. To see that knife actually cut through that many ropes.

Okay... I think I see one of your concerns VTW. Ninjas huh?

papathud beat me to it. I have purchased items at several boat supply places around monteray bay that had what you require as well as several shops on Unalaska Island.

guys, cutting free hanging rope is all about blade/edge geometry and striking technique, it literally has nothing to do with the type of steel used. You can make a knife of almost any steel to do this. Just harden the edge to 56-60 and it will last long enough to do this. It's always fun to watch though.

Check local surplus stores .this guy might have some .Dons Salvage Yard in clearwater florida .They are listed under marine parts in yellow pages .If they don't have it they might know where to get it .I'll check with some of my marine suppliers for my store . If I can find a source I'll post it.

I would think a "ninja" could cut through ten hanging ropes with a butter knife. Now if he had pictures of a pudgy IT guy eating a donut with one hand and chopping through 10 hanging ropes with the other ... I might buy one :)
