Wharncliff Caly 3 – reprofiling wonky blade

I love the Caly 3 and was stoked to grab this one. I’m not sure what the previous owner was trying to do, but the blade edge is pretty messed up. Instead of being a nice leaf shape, the edge is almost horizontal. I still think there’s a usable knife here, and the Wharncliff Delica thread made me think maybe I could get this professionally reprofiled as a Wharncliff style blade to make it more functional and easier to sharpen.

Is there any reason why that might not be a good idea? Would another blade shape be better? Other suggestions to fix up this poor li’l Caly 3? Thanks in advance.

If done right, there really is no reason that I can think of why a professional could not successfully reprofile that to a wharncliffe. If you want a little belly in it, it looks like that may be an option as well, but trying to get the same edge profile (belly) as what was originally there is going to take the tip way back.

I would grind the edge to get rid of the curves. Try to get a consistant line. Throw a 17 dps cutting egde on it and use it.

Cool. I have plenty of VG-10 leaf shaped blades around the same size. I'd just as soon have a Spydie with a straight edge for variety.

That blade seems to have a few recurves!!
HA! It does! Sadly, not the sort that are in any way useful. :p

I don't have the tools or skill to do that myself, but I'm glad to know that with a little work, there's still a usable here.

Thanks all!

I did it to a perfectly good blade, and I regret wrecking such a good knife. It's better than how yours is looking all worn like that, but here's a pic to help you decide...
