Both I suspect. The wave is pretty universally recognized as an Emerson thing nowadays, and if you listen to him talk about it's origin it was originally developed as a blade catch in case of blade on blade contact. The ability to open the knife out of pocket was actually an accidental secondary function. Is that a wave on a fixed blade? Do they add that just for brand recognition, or is there another purpose?

They trademarked it in 2016; that exact shape with the little bumps/jimping and everything. Expect it to start appearing on all their knives in the same way that the "Spyderco Round Hole" appears on all Spyderco knives. Is that a wave on a fixed blade?
