Wharncliffe folder

I was wondering if there are any manufacturers out there that make a good full sized wharncliffe folder. By full sized I mean that the blade is more than 3" and totally straight. The only things that I have been able to find are in the size range of CRKT SST. IF possible I would prefer one with a pocket clip as well.

Any info would be appreciated:p

BM Snody Gravitator, oh yeah!

Handled one just this last summer. Didn't buy one, however. I keep it on the back burner as a candidate. Liked the blade on the uncoated model. Liked the look of the coated model. Wish BM used diamond-like-coating. Figure the coating scratching off slowly would frustrate me.

Everyone I've talked to about the handle design said it was, well, handy. Looks odd but feels positive in the hand.

All the best,

While I don't really consider it a true Warncliffe, the Benchmade Apparition is a wonderful knife. Benchmade calls its blade a warncliffe, but I think it is actually more of a spearpoint that tapers into a straight edge like a Warncliffe.

Judge for yourself. Either way, I can't imagine anyone being dissatisfied with the Apparition. I love mine.

Spyderco is about to come out in the next few weeks or so with the Centofante 4 folder in a Wharncliff blade. It is number one on my list for the next folder I'm planning to buy.

STR I hadnt seen that yet, looks like Ive got a new item to pick up :) Any clue what the price point is going to be?

As to the wharnies, I would check out Kershaw, particularly the Leek and Centofante-Onion. Benchmade also has a few nice looking models outs. The models I can remember off the top of my head are the 310(0), 425, and the 920s(cant remember the specific models, most of them are modified wharnies or reverse tanto.) Also depending on your definition of a wharncliffe you could also throw in the calypso jr. Hope this helps, happy hunting.

Oh yeah, forgot to add the Spyderco Kiwi, odd looking little knife, but its fun to play with.

My understanding is that the C-4 is going to be the same as the C-3 in every regard with the exception of the blade shape and a slightly shorter blade in the Wharny style. The handle, blade thickness, and blade steel are all supposed to be the same so I would suspect the price point to be the same also, which means $41.80 plus shipping from Newgraham.com.

I think for that price it will be one of the best buys in Wharncliff style blades out there, especially when you factor in the VG10 blade steel and the reputation Spyderco has for being the sharpest knives made when new out of the box. It should be a slicing machine with a nice thin blade at 2mm thick.

Yep--the Spydie is going to be a must-have. I've held off on the Centofante III because it was just missing that certain something that made it call out to me. And now they go and make the IV...

It bears repeating that Spyderco is really changing all the rules by making $40 knives with VG-10 steel. I would want VG-10 steel on my $150 knives.

Per email just received, Mary Beth has a Centofante 4 right now, for $43.68, at New Graham. I am not familiar enough with this model to be an early adopter.

Best,

Another bump on the Benchmade Gravitator. It's a very heavy duty wharny. I love mine.

I like that. I really like that!

Dang, one more knife to add to my shopping list!

Thanks all for the imput. Right now it looks like the Spyderco for me (more of the traditional shape). But the Snody Benchmade requires a look too! (the Kiwi and others are a bit too small).

Woo hoo a new knife for me!

The new William Henry series with the button lock.I have the one with a 3 1/4" blade.I forgot the model #.The blade is very thin & cuts great. Its not cheap but its good quality.I like this lock better than their old liner lock. Its just like the old "SpeedTech" lock.

Now I can recommend the Spydie more credibly, as I have one in my pocket. It's a slick design, and I really like the idea that I can have a VG-10, Wharncliffe, Frank Centofante-designed knife for $50.

Shmackey, spill the beans....where did you find one?? I am anxious to get one for my son and one for me!

At the Spydie Factory, on my usual drive home. Numbered version, hot off the presses. :)
