I'm a big fan of wharncliffe blades, especially if I can find them in linerlocks or axis locks.

Anybody have recommendations? Especially, does anybody have experience with the Nemesis Imp?

Thanks

I have a Spyderco Centofante 4, and I think it's a lovely, elegant slicer with good VG10 steel. It has smooth one hand operation and a backlock (which works perfectly, even if you seem to prefer liner and axis locks):

The Centofante is very nice but I know that one day i will succumb to the precision of a Klotzli. With its swiss ultra-precision, quality- wise Klotzli is considered by some to be the european equivalent of Chris Reeve Knives. Behold the splendid Klotzli Walker knives. It doesn't come much better than this:

The Beretta Trident is an excellent alternative the Nemesis Imp. It is made by Moki of Japan and comes with G10, Cocobolo or Padauk scales . It is a liner lock and comes in shaving sharp VG10 steel. They are getting harder to find, but some internet sites still advertise them. Great knife; I own 3 of them.

The Kershaw Needs Work is an assisted opening wharncliffe. Linerlock. Pocket clip. 3" Sandvik blade. US-made. About $30.

benchmade 440 with or without clip, s30v blade.i have non-clip,easy in the pocket

Coming soon to a Spyderco dealer: The Urban. A slipjoint spydie, wharnie blade, bright orange scales. Not a big knife, but for fans of wharncliff and sheepsfoot blades, it is on my short list for a small handy pocketknife.

How about a BM Grip?

Basically a Wharncliffe, but with a little sweep towards the tip.

Benchmade Gravitator (discontinued but can be found)
Really solid. Titanium framelock with micarta/G10 scales.

Thanks for the tips!
I have a 555HG mini-grip in my pocket and some of the others in my drawers.
(Yes, I'm an addict. No, I'm not one of those that carries an extra knife in my underwear. I meant cabinet drawers.).
I had seen the Beretta, but didn't know any back ground on it. I'll have to check that out.

Don't discount other known great EDC knives like the Delica and Calypso Jr. CIII and Rookie which are all basically nothing less than modified Wharncliffe blades. You have to take off the spyderhump and imagine it without the opening hole to see it sometimes but thats what they are underneath and probably why they are four very good sellers and so popular IMO.

I have the limited version of this one. Blue titanium frame, carbon fiber bolster, winewood scales. Great knife.

If you like the Nemesis Imp, you should check out the Kershaw Centofante. It is approximately the same size and comes with a nice like clipped pouch for your pocket. The scales are available in a variety of finishes (mine is rainbow-Ti anodized with mother of pearl inserts) and they are pretty cheap, being somewhere in the neighbourhood of 30-50 bucks. Good luck!

I love the Nemesis Imp. It is a great gentleman's knife, with the wharncliffe bladeshape. For me, it has custom knife features, even though it is a production knife. It is has an annodized titanium liner lock with VG10 steel and various wood handles.

Also great is the Onion-Centofante which was mentioned by somniloquist. There are a few different variations. Mine has some sort of polished coating, has MOP inlays, and is just gorgeous. This knife is an excellent value in my opinion.

Lastly, don't forget the Spyderco Kiwi. Many flavors of this are available, the latest of which is a CF handle inlay.

Here's a picture of all 3 of these + a Benchmite 3100 (which I don't think is a traditional wharncliffe shape.. but maybe a little bit close?). The 3100 may not be in production any more, but you can hunt and sometimes find one available. Also, it comes in a Red Class Benchmite II that is easily found and even more easy on the wallet.

As somebody already mentioned, the Kershaw Leek is a slightly modified wharncliffe blade, and comes in lots of flavors. I like the D2 composite blades personally. There is also the CRKT Edgie, which is a low-cost, self sharpening slipjoint. They are a good little utility knife, and can be had on ebay for less than $10 with shipping. Not on par with any of the other knives mentioned here, but a great little box cutter and bang around sharp impliment. I have been using one around work for the last several months to do all the jobs I wouldn't do with a decent knife. Cardboard, rope, tape, that kind of thing. Personally I wish they would make one of these without the sharpener, and with a decent blade steel. It is just so darned comfortable...

Possibly a silly question, but what would you do with a 'decent knife'?

Anything else that needs a real blade. I don't hack through cardboard, thermoplastic shipping ties, or gum up my edc on tasks that can be handled by a simple knife I got for 99 cents. My edc knife is for just about everything else that requires a sharp blade. Not one that has been used for months as a box cutter, pry bar, and screwdriver. Besides, the edgie may not have the best blade material, but the self-sharpening hone in it puts a wicked, cardboard-eating edge on it that can be resharpened by opening and closing it a few times. I paid less that $6 total for it on fleabay, so I don't feel at all bad about beating the heck out of it.
