I’ve been looking at the Sprderco Centofante that comes in both Wharncliffe and drop point style blades. Its been mentioned before that the Wharncliffe type blade is more versatile and can do things that a drop point can’t. Does one style really have much of an advantage over the other in an EDC knife?

Howdy!

I have the Centofante IV, and I love the Wharncliffe shape!

Pros of a Wharncliffe:
-EASY to sharpen
-straight edge doesn't slip on what you're cutting, and stays in contact with what you cut
-has a nice spliter picking, yet strong tip
-did I mention it was EASY to sharpen?:D

Cons:
-not good for all slicing jobs, because only the tip and a bit of the edge contact on a flat surface. A drop point is better for this kind of cutting.

Both are great knives, so good luck on your decision!

I like them both. If it would be my only knife, I'd get the Drop Point. Otherwise, I'd go with the Wharnecliffe. My understanding is that a Drop Point is actually more versatile.

I've been EDCing a Centofante IV for about 5 or 6 months now. I hardly find myself wishing for a drop point. I'd EDC my Yojimbo but it's waaaay to hard to replace if i were to lose it and the tip is a tad fragile. :) So i got the Centofante IV as the next best thing.

The Cento 4's blade shape is great. Thin and sharp! Enjoy it its a quality knife.
