Wharncliffe Recon 1?

Well in my wait for the Frenzy I got to thinking how much I'd like a Wharncliffe on a 4" size folder, like the Recon 1. Would anyone else consider getting a Recon 1 in Wharncliffe flavor or would that be too strange?

Not a big fan of the idea, but that's just me. Their tanto blade shape is close enough to a wharncliffe as is, and if you wanted, you could literally take a tanto and cut a straight 45 degree angle into the blade and have an instant wharncliffe.

I would be a fan but in the mini-recon. I'm currently on lookout for the spyderco delica wharncliffe to get released but a recon would be pretty sweet also. Finding a nice tactical style knife with a wharncliffe has been tough, especially since I'm limited to 3" for city carry (carry 3.5-4" around the house and property). The hinderer XM-18 3" wharn is on my lust list but it will be a long time before I buy something like that over more budget friendly options.

I could also see it being in a Code 4 type package that's a little nicer on the pants for EDC.

I would be all over this. I've considered shaving down my tanto to make a wharnie, but I'm not confident enough to actually do so.

Yeah, I thought the same but worried about heat treat being ruined. Plus the tanto does have a super slight belly. I actually looked at my Recon 1 tanto last night and checked online and that slight belly also shows up in the pics there.

i like wharncliffes when actually cutting things like food and for ease of sharpening, but not enough for everything else. so i wouldnt buy one myself but i could see why others would.

IMO the point of wharncliffe is to have better point control when you cut stuff, like how box cutter is, so i think it's naturally better suited for smaller knife. As the blade becomes longer you lose the fine point control which kinda diminishes the point of having a wharncliffe blade.
This is why im really hoping for a much smaller Frenzy around 3-4" blade. At 5.5" if better to have exactly the opposite blade shape(i.e. the Hissatsu style) which is better for slashing and piercing IMO.

I think I mentioned on the Frenzy thread about also wanting one in 4", but a 3.5" would work for me too. I like my Broken Skull (as specially its splinter picking tip) a whole ton but for my uses a flat edge is best. Scraping gaskets off, opening boxes, cutting wire, even cutting apples or just whittling wood a straight edge works great for me. I'm settling for the 5.5" version with the hope that a 3.5"-4" wharncliffe folder of any kind is in the works. Hell, I'm just happy to see CS isn't completely giving up on XL folders!
