I was looking for a long time for a blade that is lotta easy (for me) to sharpen. Beside from american tanto, i favor most wharncliffes. I "locked on" in target a knife, more specific a cold steel boar hunter and i was wondering how you thing it could do in a survival/SHTF/TEOTWAWKI situation.? Have you ever tried one.? Thanks in advance gentlemen.

I also have looked ar this blade shape for outdoor / survival use. I think that if u have some skill that pretty much any knife can be pressed into survival use, my only worry would be tip s
trength fpr this one personally but hey I have been wrong before

Personally I think that the lack of a belly is detrimental in a survival situation. But it's a heck of a lot better than NO knife! :D I love wharncliffes, but think that survival designs are not so much the place for them.

I like the control when making grooves, skinning, cleaning a fish. And even though there is a giant cutting surface on a wharnie i prefer the rocking motion of a spear or drop point for cutting veggies and meat. I also use the belly when making wood items, bowls, spoons, carvings. There is something i like about a good traditional blade. I also found when cutting against a matt, its easier to trail the cut and make corners with the rounded blade.

Cutting the interior of anything with a wharncliffe is a massive difficulty compared to a knife with a belly.

Guys, i am not a smart-ass and i don't know everything about knives anatomy, but the wharncliffe i have cuts perfect in skinning, i dare to say it cuts before you even think to cut in this spot. I don't change it, i prefer it more than my ka-bar piggyback skinner. All of that, of course, if the point in sharp. My hesitation would be if this design can take chopping( if needed), and some hard use in emergency.

It's more for cutting than chopping.
You'd be better getting a 12 inch machete. Condor makes a decent one, and they LOTS of things which will blow that out of water for chopping, and all at a great price point.

That knife would get you out of the woods, as would pretty much any sharp tool, if you know what you're doing.
But as a "dedicated woods knife", I think looking at Condor's catalogue will give you more what you're looking for, and still won't suck.:)
