Wharncliffe-tanto blade?

A question for more experienced knife owners and makers... Would it be possible to make a wharncliffe-tanto style blade? The wharncliffe style blade is highly useful in utility and self defense roles. However, the extremely fine tip is worrysome. Is there any way to add width/strength to the tip without turning the knife into a meat cleaver?

Check out reverse tantos and sheeps foot blades.

Most reverse tantos I've seen (like the Benchmade Rift and Emerson CQC 8/Horseman) have an up swept blade.

There is one Boker that comes to mind the Trigonaut. It kind of has the blade shape you mention. Wanted one but could never find one.

a non pointy/fragile wharncliffe is a sheepsfoot... or possibly a coping blade, but those can be either pointy or...less pointy.

kinda strange how you worded it, as if to say you want a knife which is centered around having a very fine, usable tip, but that you want the tip to not be fine and usable :P

I mean, hawkbill blades are really great for some designs, but does anyone make one with a completely straight edge??

Having owned all three of said blades, I would not call any of them reverse tantos at all.

OP, go custom. There are plenty of makers who will work with you to give you what you want at a reasonable price.

What would you considered a reverse tanto?

And thanks tbow! Sadly my knife funds are dry for a few weeks.

Most knives catagorized as "tanto" have 2 angles. A Wharncliffe is a different catagory of bladeshape. Also, it's not recommended that a SD knife be used as a utility knife. You want to keep the SD blade as sharp as possible for obvious reasons. It's only been a suggestion by those that train, teach, and know about the matter though.

Agreed.

The way me & most of my friends see it:
I carry a tiny folder/broken fixed blade for utility stuff, and last resort weapon.
I carry a primary fixed blade for a weapon, and last resort utility use.

Bottom line is keep one blade's edge fresh at all times.

Fair enough. Enjoy your Horseman. I'll be getting one of those eventually.

To be honest the Horseman is about perfect for me. The 8 is too massive for my taste, and the Horseman fits my xl hand neatly. Shop around, you can find them for a good price if the price seems a bit high.

Stoney26,

Almost a day later and no response from you on whether people are close to what you're asking? Perhaps you have an example in mind or you can draw the blade shape.

Here are two of what I think you're asking for:
