Wharncliffe Vs. Slicer Vs. Spanto for EDC tasks which do you prefer?

I am on the hunt again for another XM-18 (I previously had a spanto) and was wondering what the general consensus is regarding the various production blades for EDC tasks. Clearly any of them can handle "hard use" but which excels at the normal everyday tasks? I see the Wharncliffe as being the best at utility type work. The Slicer as a catch all for edc, camp and food prep in a pinch type work and the spanto as a bit of both with decreased ability when it comes to food prep or general "Sliciness" (I made up the word but feel free to use it;)). What are the thoughts of the Hinderer faithful?

Depends on what you use the most for EDC, all around would be Slicer for me, since I have been using it for preparing food, cutting boxes, tapes and that's all everyday task for me. I don't have Wharnie yet so I can't say. Hope it helps.

Good question. I have the wharncliffe and it great, however is find I still like a small sebenza for slicing and chores where I need a bit more control. To me the last 3 inches of the wharncliffe aren't needed. The tip is by far the most useful aspect of this blade type.

That may be like picking your date for Saturday night and the candidates are Kate Upton, Katy Perry and Megan Fox
I contend - you can't lose! :)
I EDC my Wharnie and love it.
Before that it was a spanto and a slicer depending on the weather (pants vs shorts)
I honestly never thought/said, "Dang, wrong knife" when faced with a task.
Now, IF you asked which pokes my air hole in my coffee lid the best - gotta tip to the wharnie on that one.

It is nice to have a pick of the herd for various tasks.

Kate Upton...that's the correct answer ;)

I rotate between my slicer and spanto and enjoy both. When I need something sharp they both get the job done but the slicer would be my choice if I had to pick. I have yet to get a wharncliffe in my hands.

Everyone's daily tasks are different, so picking the blade geometry that most closely address my cutting needs drives my decision on what Hinderer I carry for the day. But as Rubi said can't lose with any blade shape, nice to have options.

@rnbtexas: let us know if you find that "3' Slicer flipper" you seek in the sigline...it's one of my dream creations.:D

As for the topic of this thread...I carry all 3. Spantos get 55% usage time/ Slicers 40%, and 5% Wharnie (only because it was added last and serves as a "3rd/4th blade/backup")

I made a decision. I find that I use my folders for mostly cutting up cardboard, some food in a pinch and other normal things that any sharp edge can handle. I think that the spanto I had was great but, being honest with myself, I rarely, if ever use a knife for anything that would require the "beef" of the spanto. I got rid of the last one I had due to needing some quick cash and wanting something a little "slicier". Therefore, I picked the 3.5" slicer. It should be here on Monday. It's nice to be getting an XM again! It has a dark green scale, I was thinking copper standoffs would go pretty nicely with that scale.

I believe you will be quite happy with your slicer and find it lacking in no manner or form.

Good choice. I love my slicer. Well I love them all, but my slicer always finds its way back in my pocket somehow.

I carry my spanto and slicer equally usually. I find them both to do exactly what I need :) Love them both

Around town I carry my wharnie 95% of the time. If I'm carrying a pack or wearing hiking boots I have a spanto. I'll grab the slicer going to a bbq (or steak place). If I ever get a skinner (oh so close) that'll be my go-to for hunting.

Yes, it's nice to have choices to fit the task at hand :D

I think you're right. The slicer has everything I "need" in a blade while having nothing I don't. For my uses, it was the least amount of compromise.

Did you just use "Megan Fox" in the same sentence as "Kate Upton"???

I'm offended. Kate Upton is offended. Katy Perry is mildly offended.

I like the spanto for all around use. Obviously the slicer would be better for someone who slices a lot.

A Wharncliff in a 3 inch non flipper would be awesome, I personally would like the shorter blade for tip control. A non flipper because the protruding flipper would get in the way of using more of the blade when cutting on a surface. Get a spanto because they are cool, and a slicer because it's more practical for folding knife purposes IMO.
