Wharncliffe with Scandi Grind. Thoughts?

For the things I do with a knife, I find a wharncliffe blade to be about perfect. More recently, I've come to appreciate scandi grinds. So...like chocolate and peanut butter, I'm thinking I might like a scandi grind/wharncliffe knife. So far, I haven't found such a thing. And while I've made about a dozen knives so far, all of them have been flat ground. At this point, I'm am very far away from being able to grind a scandi blade. Perhaps I'll pick up a cheap mora and turn it into a wharncliffe. Am I missing something, and this is just a stupid idea? Does this sound like an interesting concept to anyone else?

I think it sounds like a good idea. AFAIK, this is the closest stock one around fitting the description.

But there's no reason one can't get a larger Mora and cut down the blade into a more pointy Wharncliffe shape.

Sounds to me like the best $10 to $15 solution you could possibly find. I like the idea, too.

Sounds like a plan, although I personally do not like scandi grinds :) why don't you just get/make a knife that's not as wide?

Wow...that's funny. I've made a few.....errr....knife like thingies, and ALL I can do is a convex or Scandi grind!:D (which are my two favorites anyways)

I think your idea sounds great. I have a profound like (that would be love if it weren't for the homely appearance) of Wharncliffe blades and a profound love of scandi grinds. Sounds like a great knock around, general purpose knife- and a fantastic whittler!

I used to hate the appearance of wharncliffe blades. Then I stumbled across a few in magazines that looked really good. I've come to realize that you just have to get the lines right. It's just harder to get 'em right on wharncliffes.
A long while back I posted a thread asking for pictures of wharncliffes. There were some real beauties.

It looks like it's time for another order to Ragweed Forge! I think I'm gonna get a few to ensure I get at least one that looks good and works well. I'll almost certainly be changing the handles, too. I'll report back when I do.

It's not stupid if it appeals to you. Go for it. I like full flat grinds, but to each his own!

I pulled out my 760 (the green handled/stainless "army" one) and used a black permanent marker to mark where I think I'll grind off the blade. I don't think it's going to be pretty. But then again, it's not like I'm starting off with a pretty knife. I think I may do this tomorrow, and place my order to Ragweed AFTER I screw up this one.

Post a pic when you're done. sounds like it would be a good general purpose knife, at least for those of us who like scandi grinds.

Well...I finished it yesterday. It actually turned out much better than I had thought. The blade is just a tad under 3.5" and shows just a bit of belly toward the tip. I also changed the size and shape of the handle. It's now about 3.75 inches and is also thinner. The whole package looks good and fits my hand perfectly. Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to post a pic until sometime next week. Stay tuned.
