Just received this lovely knife from Neil and I must say it is a beaut! Though smallish it is just right in my hands for the work intended. Blade is 2 7/8" and overall is 6 7/8". The Desert Ironwood is very nicely charactered and the center pin is a great touch.

(old pic is gone, see below...)

Take a peek and see!

Thanks again Neil, smooth transaction and excellent knife! The sheath is also well thought out and holds the knife very secure...

Hey, very nice piece Gary. Gotta love that desert ironwood. Neat handle design too.

What a nice wharncliffe with really outstanding ironwood. Very nice.

But it looks like Neil misspelled his last name on the blade etch!

Beautiful! Neil's work is definitely some of the most stylish stuff out there. I think the proportions are great for a blade this size

Thanks guys, Steve, the proportions are about perfect, fits the hand very well, just put a leather fob on it and it really compliments the knife....

Great looking knife. Is it a user for the leather sheaths?

I am really interested a preformance report.

Bo...user for sure! Leather, probably as a trim knife and lace cutter but more for the office work stuff...should be sheeple friendly I'd say!

Gary,

I like it! Nice wood! Nice blade choice!

I'll be interested to hear your opinion on the Talonite after some use... So far I still love mine!

Thanks Gary,
It was a pleasure doing business with you! I've found that the Stellite holds up quite well during my fish cleaning sessions. That's my favorite blade test medium

I think the knife must be held and used to be appreciated. In it's standard configuration with the drop point, it's intended for processing small game and caping. I MUST work very much like an X-Acto knife. In a standard grip, the angled BUTT fits right up in the area were the pinky meets the palm.
Thanks everyone for the kind words!

I'm a big fan of both Wharncliffe's and desert ironwood, and I think this one is fantastic! That ironwood scale looks incredible, beautiful color and figure. Congrat's to you both!

Incredible knife; congrat's G2. I've got the standard D2 drop point, and can testify that it's a helluva game knife. Very comfortable and controllable, even when bloody. Neil makes outstanding knives.

That knife came out beautifully and the handle in particular is gorgeous. I do like the proportions.
Is the stellite noticeably better than talonite?

Agree Viper, when I took it out of the box I was giddy, as the sleek top of the handle was exposed out of the kydex sheath and just looked amazing, couldn't wait to pull it free!

This size is just about right for everyday wear, I've had wharnecliff blades longer, 4" or so and they tend just get in their own way, this one is a tad under 3" and works very well!

How thin is the blade ground?

What a gorgeous little knife. Looks like it will be supremely useful for "careful" work. Now I know what I need to be saving my next pile of shekels for.

DB, the blade is ground fairly thin, cuts well and push cuts through leather easily, point is very ....well....pointy!

One thing that I was pleased to see was that there wasn't a notch before the edged started, those things are a pet peeve of mine, they tend to catch on stuff when you go to cut and it really irritates me to no end.

Also, Neil did a very good job of tapering the tang, very sleek all the way around...

Thanks again guys!!

DB, the blade is ground from 1/8" stock, the tang is drilled and tapered. I grind the blade on a 6" contact wheel so it leaves a decent amount of material down the spine. I make the edges on these a little thinner than on the larger knives, around .020 prior to sharpening.
My goal on a knife like this is to make the blade, especially the tip, very usefull for cutting without leaving it weak. It should stand up well to Gary's leather cutting and general utility chores
