There has been a Ganza or two since the Sus Scrofas came out, but I don't recall seeing a true wharncliffe version that has come directly from Busse (actually, maybe there was just one, but then again maybe I just dreamt it). Anyway, I wanted to gauge the interest level here. So,

If Jerry offered a true wharncliffe with an Active Duty style handle, would you bite or wait for something else???

I would like a Wharny style, but I am not sold on the AD handle for it. I kinda like the SAR5 handle for a Wharny style blade...

I wonder if the balance would be OK with the SAR5 handle???

i like my SAR5 but it would make a crappy "fighter" and that is what the intent behind a Wharnie is ...right???

i am no knife designer though, i can barely sharpen them...lol

Anyone know what a wharncliffe is???... i mean i know what a Wharncliffe blade is but what does the term mean and what is it designed for officially... my Google-Fu has failed me....:o

I thought it was actually named after the Earl of Wharncliffe because he designed that blade shape to be more utilitarian. I could be wrong. Probably am.

I always considered the Wharnies a utility and slicer style blade.

Held upside down, something like the Sus Scrofa could be a serisous fighter, but the curved blade puts too much need on the point to finish the job as a utility/slicing blade, while at the same time being a great "hook" while slashing...

BAD thickness with satin or double cut blade and tan micarta.:barf:

Who would won't something like that,......ME:D

I'd buy one or so.

I've seen several wharncliff mods on Sus Scrofi here in the last year or two, one a satin with blue/black G10 and a black crinkle with orange and black G10. Personally, I'd love to have a Busse wharncliff EDC - the design is a great safety/utility one for boaters, climbers, anyone working on unsure footing that doesn't want to accidently stab themselves with a more conventional point - plus it's a great slicer. I'd like to find someone like Ban or Randucci to mod my SS LE, straighten the spine, round the butt like an AD, and maybe turn the hawkbill blade into a wharncliff/sheepfoot. Anyone have pictures or other suggestions?

What's a wharny??

This?

Jaxx,
That is a nice looking knife, and one I don't recall seeing. I actually really like the handles on that. Some of the custom shop handles have not really been my thing, but those are :thumbup::thumbup:.

I would be up for something 3" or less in blade length and a correspondingly short handle. I would like it to be non-fancy in an attempt to reduce costs as I have had ~$20 in discretionary cash in the past three months. A wharncliff in a small size would be a great wood carving or leather working knife, especially in INFI.

According to A. G. Russell's glossary:

A very useful blade from the 19th century. Very thick at the back for strength, tapering to a fine point and edge.

The curve from the spine to the point is shallower than that of a sheep foot blade.
