New member. First time. Be gentle. Just got a beauty of a custom hunter. 10.5", oosic and maple handle, stamped Wharton S&S on reverse and #112 on obverse. Anyone know who or what "Wharton" is? Tried the web with no luck. Thanks for any feedback.

Wharton S&S is Jim Wharton from Belle Plaine, KS. Which is me, I just recently found this forum and am lurking. My handle on this forum is Stag & Steel ( S&S). I have been making knives for 18 years. I almost exclusively use ATS-34 and do all my own heat-treating, sheath making etc.. Is there another 2 numbers after the 112 and is it hand engraved or stamped numbers? I am guessing this knife is one of my earlier pieces and was made about 16 years ago. You can reach me at jwharton@sktc.net or (316)393-8634 (cell). Thanks and GOD BLESS! That knife should have symbol resembling a "cross on a hill" close to the Wharton S&S. All my work has that symbol on it.

Hi Jim, welcome to BladeForums. Glad to have you here and I am pleased you are so open about yourself. (First sign of a trusting and quality knifemaker! :D)

Stick around and post often. We are glad to hear from you. Looking forward to some images to check out. :)

Jim, I would love to see some of your work. If you have a website you can post photos that are stored there. If you get a knifemaker membership you can post photos stored as files on your computer. A knifemaker membership also gets you other perks as well.

Thanks guys! I plan to get knifemakers membership when things slow down and will learn how to post pics. Don't have a web site, no time for being a webmaster with all the other things I do. I am excited about finding this forum but I don't spend too much time at the old puter, more at the bench.

Beauty and function combined. There will be a LOT of happy men this Christmas!

Thanks, Jim. Nice work.
