When you´re eyeballing a new folder, what features MUST the knife contain to make you buy it?

Well, I would never buy a new folder if...
It couldn´t be opened and closed one handed.
It didn´t lock.
It it´s to much ninja-tactical-looking.
If it costs more than 200 dollars
....and that´s about it.

The type of steel, manufactor, pocket clip, where it´s made, serrations, weight, size etc comes second hand for me.

What´s your MUST on a new knife?

It must have both a blade and a handle! :D

Really the only must is it must be in some way visually appealing. Although even one of those Pug dogs can be cute. I tend to like clean lines and find Mall ninja unappealing.

The ugliest knife I own is the SE Salt 1 and it looks good open and funky closed. It took me a long time to appreciate Spyderco for their "pug" qualities and now they outnumber anything else.

One handed opening, plain edge, and locking blade.

Anything else is optional.

Blade hole opener is a must. I rarely (if ever) buy a folder that has anything else these days. I still use one of my folders with a thumb stud, but its mostly because I've had it for so long and used it so much.

For me to buy a folder it needs to have:

Fully plain edge
Tip up clip
Lockable blade
<300 price tag

It must have a good lock-up, and a blade at least 3 3/4 inches long, and be made from a top end steel:
ZDP 189
CPM M-4
S90V
S30V (Marginal)
9V

No mall ninja garbage, desert camo or colors or obvious ripoffs of other people's designs.

It must be opened and closed one handed.
It must lock.
It must costs less than 180 dollars.
It must have a fully plain edge.
It must have Tip up clip.
It must have a blade between 2 and 5 inches.
It must be from a reputable maker.

This exactly.

It must be made in USA and the company must not have any history of unfair labor practices.

It needs to be something that interests me.
Might be the steel. Might be the design. Might be the company that makes it.

Blade must be at least aus8, preferably higher grade steel.
Maximum blade length 3.5 inches.
Full flat grind prefered, at least no deep hollow grind
Easy to sharpen(i.e. no massive up sweep on blade).
Handle material must be able to take heavy use.
Handle must be comfortable.
Lock back, to many bad experiences with liner and frame locks.
Price 100.00 or under(it's a user and must be easily replaced).

It must be vintage folder or as of late new production traditional style folder like the Queens, GEC or Schatt & Morgan and be under 150.00. Bone or stag is a must also.

It may sound strange but if it doesn't feel right in my hand, nothing else matters. My favorite user is the S&W Extreme ops folder. It is also about the cheapest knife that I own. I got it about eight years ago at a farm store for 6.00. I convexed it and have carried it almost every day since. Stays sharp, Locks with a good sound SNAP and has zero blade play in any direction. I liked it so much that I went back and got two more. However, I may never wear out the first one.
