Bought it over a year ago in box full of mixed pieces. This one slipped by and did not get marked.
Any idea what it might be ( I want to say bog, but really not sure)
Thanks

Doesn't look like bog oak to me, at least not the bog oak I've worked with.
It does look pretty!
I'd take the time to fill the pores.

Been stabilized, has a coat of “sellers show” finish on it. Sanded down to natural and will treat it accordingly. I searched bog oak but only one piece looked anywhere similar to this (that one had been end cut). Bias-cut maybe? Dunno, may end up as a house knife, hate selling something when I can’t say for a certainty what it is.

Bog oak is more very dark brown to black. You do get lighter bog oak but your wood looks to fresh to me to be bog oak.
It may be oak or old oak from a construction or so. Oak darkens and if it was part of a stables the ammonia fumes from the animal urine would have darkened it.
Anyhow treat yourself to something nice and put it on a knife for yourself. It looks stunning.

No need to go to all the expense of international shipping. It costs less shipping conus. Me!

It's quilted oak that has been dyed. It may be a common oak, but there is a chance it's some other wood that shows strong medullary ray figure like banksia or leopardwood. But based on the grain I think it's some type of American oak.

The figure you are seeing here i quilted figure that was quartersawn.

It's not showing any quilt figure which would only appear on a flatsawn face. Instead the quartersawn grain is showing the waves of the wood together with strong medullary ray figure. It's an interesting effect, that was enhanced by dark dye. It's not bog oak, in bog oak the medullary ray cells turn silver and do not remain more colored than the rest of the wood, that happens with dying though.

D Dan : Be sure to show that handle once it's finished - That work really looks NICE. Is that the wood you asked about it first post?
