What’s Up With Closing Threads Blues?

You and I go way, way back brother and I realize you’re now one of the “Grand-Poobah” moderators on BF and have been for years. My question is, “Why do you close threads so early, (to me), and maybe others”?

You’ve closed my threads that were peaceful and informative and closed them with “enough has been discussed about this” or something of the sort. I then notice threads that are totally disruptive and argumentative and you let them you let go with 50 or more responses!

Who cares if a polite thread continues with thoughts and maybe info that might help “newbies”? No, you shut it down because YOU think it’s been covered enough. In all fairness, you are a knowledgeable person who knows a lot about knives but you and I learned a lot of what we know way back when this great forum first started.

I know it doesn’t mean anything now that you and I were from the very beginnings of BF but why do you close gentle threads and not disruptive threads? What say you and I say it in peace. Thank you.

Perhaps you should have sent me a PM and laid out your question in a more specific and targeted fashion rather than insulting me with your sarcastic characterization.

Our decisions regarding threads that remain open or closed are based on many factors...including whether the discussion remains on topic for the sub-forum and subject matter, or whether it is getting raucous, raunchy or out of hand.

Not every discussion remains on topic, or polite, or germane and when it runs its course we often cull them to keep things manageable.

If you feel I've been too heavy handed, feel free to contact Spark Spark regarding my excesses and ask him to overturn my action which caused you grief...or to remove me. He is the ultimate arbiter.

Have a nice day, Gene. If you have something personal to ask me in future, send me a PM. If you have complaints about my moderation, take it up with the boss. I don't appreciate the way you went about this. I guess I'm old school that way.
