Hey all.

I’m curious as to what traditional folders or slip joints you all like to carry.

Just so I’m straight, I am talking about the pocket knives like Case, Hen and Rooster and so forth. I guess Swiss Army knives can also be in the mix. I just wanted you all to know what I was talking about in case I used the terms incorrectly.

My favorite is a CASE Large Stockman. It’s is beautiful to my eye and carry's great in my pockets. I enjoy carrying it and using it more and more.

I see these other slip joint knives that are a very high quality and they come packaged in a tube. Every time I see a video on this brand, the knives are beautiful. I suspect they are priced at probably near $200 or so. I know know the brand though.
I would like to pick up another traditional style multi-blade folder or 2 for EDC and use. I just don’t know where to start looking.

What are some of the high quality traditional folders that you all like and use? What’s your favorite knife?

Please post pics if you have any.
Thanks for your time.

combination of Large Stockman, Barlow, 2 Blade Jack Knife, Canoe, with a sprinkling of other patterns, such as the Moose, Large Sunfish, and Teardrop, in my pocket.
A Buck 110 or Old Timer 7OT on my belt, and a 4 blade Scout/Engineers/Demo knife clipped to my belt loop.
I am also in the habit of having a small neck knife on me.

If you are looking for a high quality, multi-blade, American/English/German style traditional slipjoint pocket knife, your options are pretty limited I think. Besides Case, Buck still makes a few models stateside, I believe, if you don’t mind stainless. There are also the German-made Bokers to consider.

I first discovered the “tube” brand when I found this website, and very quickly lost interest when I discovered you couldn’t just go on a website and BUY one. I am not willing to go through the hassle of obtaining limited-run reproductions, designed to be collectors items, and the hype surrounding them is also a big turn-off for me. If they consistently produced one or two models that were readily available, I might reconsider.

If you are willing to look to Europe for high quality single-blade traditional knives, your options broaden up a little.

(Keep in mind this is coming from a guy who mostly carries and uses big, cheap, single blade, “peasant” style knives. hopefully others will chime in with more constructive suggestions 🤣)

Hard to come up with a favorite, I have multiple GEC's, 06, 09, 05, 2014 BF Jack, a Schatt & Morgan and an A. Wright Lambsfoot that get carried regularly. Usually on a two day rotation. If I had to pick a favorite, as much as I like the 2014 BF Jack I believe my 09 Esquires would get the nod.

I have about 20 that get rotated in and out of my regular carry rotation, but two that are hands down favorites. These two get most of the pocket time, been a Case 18 pattern guy for a long time but added the 93OT Wrangler a year ago. If needed, either one of these could do all I need in a pocketknife for the remained of my carrying days. OH

Your FP didn't make the Top 5 Vince?
It's a beautiful knife, Christian, for sure, but I don't carry it much. Not as comfortable in the hand as the others, and the blade is pretty thick. The Opinel and trapper are better slicers, in my opinion. Maybe I'll get to carrying it again.
And when I say these five are my favourites, I guess I mean I carry them the most, and they usually stay on my nightstand. I have a lot of knives in cigar boxes. My Spanish navaja made by José Herreros is one of my best, but too pretty to carry. The Fontenille-Pataud is similar. And so for a number of knives. I can't carry them all, like 5K Qs 5K Qs ! I'm sure Jack Black Jack Black doesn't carry all of his.

The pattern is the Electricians Knife (TL-29). But I have a half a dozen of them, but the Camillus TL-29 with Black scales seems to get carried most. It's so easy to touch up that carbon steel blade.

I like knives around 4" closed that have a straight edge and a bellied blade. Lately these two have gotten the bulk of the carry.

Plus, I always carry my Evo Grip 14 Swiss Army Knife.

I've always carried a Muskrat about 90% of the time. Used to do a lot of trapping and hunting in my younger years and got used to it. Find I don't need a lot of blade variety, just a sharp one. Most in my area preferred Case because they used nickel silver hardware on their muskrats, trappers and stockman, al least until the 80's. It didn't stain or discolor when exposed to blood, so you could keep it church clean fairly easily.

The Case jumbo or large stockman you have is a dandy. You won't be wanting for much more. Big enough for most jobs, small enough to pocket and has a sheepsfoot which comes in handy occasionally. It's been made for 100+ years, so it must be doing something right.
