On page 79 of the latest Blade magazine there is a photo of a fantastic D-guard bowie by one of our own, Stacy Apelt (bladsmth). I can't believe how much has gone into that knife for the incredibly reasonable price that is listed for it.

Stacy, you are indeed very talented.

Keith - Thank you.
There are a few details that the article didn't state. The handle disassembles for cleaning and maintenance. The locking pins are miniature bowies with damascus blades and ivory handles. You can see one at the ricasso and the other at the pommel. The guard and all hardware is sterling silver completely overlaid in 18 karat gold. The front of the guard is engraved by me.too.The knuckle guard has the inscription,"DRAW ME NOT IN ANGER,NOR SHEATH ME IN SHAME".

Beautiful knife Stacy, and a wise inscription.
Did you forge the steel yourself?

Mike

Miden, yes,It was one of my earlier attempts at damascus.Done by hand,no power hammer.Lots of pounding.226 layers,if I remember right.

What big arms you must have Brian....:D

Looks good. I would like to try that bashing bit one day.

Mike

That is a beautiful blade -- congrats on getting it in Blade!

Wow, that is a true stunner Stacy. The black & white photo doesn't do the knife justice once you see the color one. Fantastic workmanship.
