What a crappy weekend for knives!!

So the wife and I start out the weekend rennovating our Mother In Law Apartment that a good friend of hers wants to rent out. We're in there painting and spackling when the wife asks to borrow my Axis AFCK, I gave it to her...She tucked it in her pocket and I've yet to see it since! she keeps swearing if I dig through the laundry pile I'll find it, but so far I've been burrowing through there like a damn ground hog...it's STILL MISSING!!! This is my most frequently carried knife when I can't get away with a fixed blade. I love it and miss it. Wish she could at least pretend to be concerned.

So, then I'm using the most beloved fixed blade I've ever owned..the one I carry every darn chance I get. While cutting foam from around a ceiling I dropped it about 8 feet onto a pile of lumber. THE BLADE BROKE OFF AT THE HANDLE!!! I Swear I felt a lump in my throat when this one happened. (It's not an accident that I didn't give a more vivid description of the knife...Seems like it'd be the best thing until the manufacturer and I get things sorted)

Then FINALLY my wife goes off to the Hardware store and to buy some dinner for the work crew. 'lo an' behold she returns and is absolutely upset as hell cuz she lost her beloved carbon Fiber Ladybug off her keychain. (was carried in what I thought was a secure kydex sheath)

So in summary by the end of the weekend I'm missing my Axis AFCK, my most beloved fixed blade is snapped in half, and my wife's hard to find carbon fiber Ladybug is missing.

This sucks!!:(

Gee, I feel your pain. On the bright side, you found out firsthand that your fixed blade was actually a POS that probably would have broken in your hand if you did any heavy cutting or SD. Good to learn in a manner that couldn't hurt you.

Think of it this way, it's a GREAT excuse to go on a knife buying binge now!!:D

Hell...I'd love ta go on a knife buyin' binge...'cept fer the fact that we done spent so much money on that damn rental I can barely afford a pot ta piss in or a winda to throw it outta...:D

Wow! Losing knives sucks, but it happens every once in a while...

As for the fixed blade breaking, that REALLY sucks! I've dropped knives from higher than that and got a dent or maybe a scratch, but none of 'em ever broke! If it's the knife I think it is, I am definitely surprized! Keep us updated on what happens - I am really curious to see what happens. It sounds like a defect in materials or workmanship to me. I would think that a quality knife should be able to withstand an 8' fall onto a pile of lumber! (some companies will use that "you abused the knife by dropping it" cop-out, but I hope that doesn't happen to you)

It wasn't a Busse or a Strider was it?:D :D

what was the fixed that broke?

I feel your pain though!!!! I lost my avalanche once and was broken!! searched everywhere for it!! then I stopped and figured out I needed to pray and ask the Lord to find it!!! (that's the first thing I should have done when I realized I lost it!!) and he did!!! :)

...I'll pray that you find it, and Lord willing, it will turn up!!! :)

sincerely, John

Thanks for the kind words, rev jch...much appreciated!

Heya, AntDog...just tried to email ya'...catch up a lil' an' give ya' some details about the broken one...got a delivery failure notice. The Yahoo account ya' got listed here still active?

You think the snapped fixed blade is bad... (which, btw, I do feel your pain, but thought this might make you feel better)... an acquaintance of mine cracked the frame on his H&K USPc45 yesterday, when the range lane table buckled and dumped it on the floor. No visible damage immediately thereafter. However, 100-ish rounds later, part of the fram, near the base of the grip, just fell off. About 3/4 inch long by 1/4 inch wide. Can't wait to hear what H&K does about that. But just think, that is probably about a $750 gun!

Hey R.W.S. - I think my Yahoo account is still active, but I never check it... I think my usual email address should work now - it was just really constipated! I had about 65 unread emails in that sucker!

Anyway, I'll shoot ya an email just to make sure it still works.

rockspyder - sorry to hear about your friend's HK. A guy I go to the range with has one in .40 and it's by far my favorite piece of "tactical tupperware".

Heya AntDog, Sounds good! Darnit...I knew I shouldn'ta gone with that Battle Mistress...my buddies told me to get something bigger and stronger, but I thought I'd save a few bucks...:D (for those not in the facetious mindset, no that is not the knife in question, although a Busse may very well be the replacement)

Damn RockSpyder! my sympathy to yer friend there! that pretty much snapped me outta whatever self pity I thought I had left to wallow in! I hope he has better luck with H&K warranty/customer service than I did. That's one heckuva nice looking gun I'd never heard a negative comment about. I've wanted one myself for quite awhile now. for what ya' pay for one of them jokers I sincerely hope they make it right for him.

They say that bad things happen in threes, so your bad luck should be over. I hope this is true. The manufacturer may give you a new fixed blade and your AFCK should turn up. I think you might be SOL on the CF Ladybug. Let us know how things turn out and good luck from now on!

WOW!!! That is to bad! Let us know if HK makes it right to your friend. If they don't we know they don't stand behind their products. I bet they will take care of him as they have a great reputation!

In all seriousness I think there's a lesson here.
Keep a couple of Moras or Opinels in your toolbox for just this kind of thing.
I'm really sorry about your troubles, Runs.

I'm betting that H&K will take care of it for him, if not for free, then certainly for a discount. It is an eye-opener, though. In the past week, I've seen, or had, two things completely fail living up to their specifications/expectations. I guess it just goes to show you that there are always manufacturing defects, so don't trust anything completely until it is tested thoroughly.

Since you don't really want to post publicly the brand and model fixed blade that snapped on ya, just give us the first letter of the maker and let our minds do the rest:D
