I am in Athens right now (Bulldog country, not southern Europe). Molly is at the hospital for a post-surgery checkup and I have a couple of hours to kill. I stop into a knife & gun B&M that I visit when I'm here and they have moved some of their BMs to a glass case. I walked over, had a look, and there, staring straight up at me, was a pristine, unused, uncarried 721 PE satin blade for <$100. No box, but an obviously unused knife, or so lightly used that it doesn't show. It's in my possession now.

For those who are recent to knives and BM, the 720 & 721 are from the turn of the century. They are 3.5" clip point (Bowie blade profile) AXIS knives. The 720 was aluminium scaled and the 721 was G10. They are my all-time favorite BMs for everyday carry, a real competitor to my Paras for size, weight, and function.

Turns out the store bought someone's collection. There are a couple of AFCKs (I think that's the model), some early 530s, and a few other things there, but the 721 was what interested me. I've never has a "flea market/pawn shop surprise" before, but I guess if you keep looking, sometimes you hit pay dirt.

Just thought I'd share that.

Nice, 720 and 721 rock. A find for sure. I used to EDC one for a long while before it got swiped in my hiking pack.

Yep, its always nice to run across a good find. Congrats.
BTW, I love Athens, but I've only been on Saturdys in the fall when things are pretty hectic.

Yeah... that's not the best time to visit if you're wanting to look around. There are a couple of nice B&Ms in Athens that handle a good selection of blades. Emerson, Cold Steel, Buck, a few Spydercos, Benchmade, Kershaw, Case, and some others that I can't recall right now are all there for handling before buying. Haven't found anything like that around here, even in Atlanta.

Thanks for all the replies and the 72x pics. I really wish they'd bring that one back in some LE form, maybe. M390 or M4 would be nice. I just think this is a really good competitor for the Para 2. You get a bit more cutting edge, a more robust tip, and a slightly slimmer package with an ambi lock. Much as I love my Paras and Para 2s, the 721 carries a bit better in lightweight dress pants or dropped/clipped in an inside coat pocket.

Great find. My son and family recently moved to Athens from W Texas and love it! I gifted him a mini-grip at Christmas so he's just now getting interested in carrying a knife.

I picked up this one in 2000. The store owner had one other like this and a G10 model too. I should have bought them all.

Great knives indeed!
I have a 722, love the tanto. After I gave my trusty eel 722 to a friend it took me a few years to find a replacement for it. I got lucky while visiting my Cousin at Ft Bragg, I found one in a small shop for a fair price.

Congrats on your find, under $100 is a great deal.
