Wow. Sometimes I just can't believe my luck. I just shipped my Starmate out by courier last night, and it is now hopefully well on it's way to Golden for pivot adjustment. It feels good to know that it is in the pipeline, but I was still feeling a little bummed out.

However, what should arrive in the mail today but a brand-new C42 Viele PlainEdge!!!
A bit of background on why this came as a bit of a surprise: I had ordered a different knife from a Canadian dealer a couple of months back, it turned out that the piece was back ordered when his own shipment finally arrived. Since the Viele was just $10 over the price, I asked for a substitution deal on it instead.

Due to my crappy web-email account or whatever circumstances, I never heard back, and had just assumed that my message hadn't made it, and my check had been destroyed. Being a busy procrastinator, I simply hadn't gotten around to follwing up on the deal, and here we are.

A great big Thank You to fellow forumite Dale McLean of ADaM Sharps Specialty Cutlery is in order for making this happen. Things could not have worked out more perfectly. The Viele will more than fill the void while I await the return of my Starmate.

About the Viele: I haven't spent too much quality time with it yet, since I am supposed to be working, but my initial examination makes me wonder how companies like Emerson, et al. can charge so much. The fit and finish on the Viele is so flawless. In one place along the back of the handle there are five separate, stacked layers of scale, liners and spacer, and as I run my thumb along there it feels like a single smooth part. Perfect.

Mr44 - Sometimes you get lucky, right? I'm glad that timing is in your favor. We need to remember those unusually "good" happenings as they help balance the unfortunate memories.
