Spring hasn't gone exactly as planned, but what ever does? I was hoping to work through most of early spring in order to save up enough to take the summer off and focus on whitewater kayaking, backpacking and rock climbing but unfortunately I won't be able to do that. My RC5, tomahawk and machete are in a cabin in the mountains 110 miles north of here, and I have no car so retrieving my beaters is out of the question. Up until this week it has rained 5 days out of the week since March and trail conditions here are so mucky it's hard to get up the motivation to go for a long backpacking trip... but I've been sitting around twiddling my thumbs for so long I may be going crazy. Here are a few pictures of springtime so far, trying to enjoy the little things.
There's an owl couple that live along the seasonal creek on the trailhead that starts down the block. Most of these pictures are along that trail system, it's pretty much endless starting on the north side of Boise in the foothills and continues on up through Boise National Forest, Payette National Forest (by far my favorite place to go bush bumming) and branches out through a few different National Wilderness areas etc. I have dayhiked everything within a 20 mile range to the point where it has started to get boring, but every once in a while nature throws you a curveball like this one. I wouldn't have noticed the owls had I not followed an instinctive urge, I'm pretty much deaf but could swear I heard owl hooting three or four nights in a row. I must have subconciously triangulated the approximate location because I hiked the creek very slowly and just happened to see this monster sitting on a branch.
Resizing right now so I'll post em one by one.
overlooking Boise under the spring Sun
Boise river, downtown. No, I'm not stalking bums *caugh mistwalker caugh* I just thought this was a good picture.
sagebrush-the cockroach of plants. survives the worst weather conditions in the worst places year round, never fails to leaf up again in the spring. Other than firewood and bark line they don't have a whole lot of use, unfortunately, because in the high desert they are about the only woody plant one can find.
the norm lately for weather-overcast and constantly drizzling. I don't think this is typical seasonal weather for the area, I think it's the El Nino winter we had.
I swear I was depressed when I shot this one... haha
Spring allergies are affecting everyone, even the owl has red eye syndrome.
I'm not the only one with serial killer eyes
