I have made a couple of liner locking knives that were flippers but being a tradesman mostly I use my knives at work and I find it sometimes inconvenient to have to use both hands to close my knife or risk cutting my thumb by doing it with one hand.

Often times I find myself in some contorted position where I can only use one hand when I need to cut something or on a ladder for example where I need one hand to hang on for dear life. And also I find when people want to look at my knives once they open them they can’t figure out how to close a liner locking knife so have to hand it back to me so I can close it.

I really like the fun factor of a flipper and convenience so I was trying to figure out a way to make a non-locking flipper. The problem is that the flipping tab basically goes in the area where the spring mechanism for a slip joint would go so I had to find another way to hold the knife in the open position.

Then it hit me the detent ball holds it in the closed position so why not just drill another hole in the blade that corresponds to the opening position for the detent ball. I have found on previous knives that the detent ball spring tends to push the knife blade to one side so I put a second one on the other side to balance the blade position better.

I did upgrade this knife also putting in caged roller bearings which gives it a nice smooth flipping action. I used a flaked carbon fiber bolster black g-10 on the rest of the handle with a white g-10 separating them and the blade is razor-sharp S35VM with titanium liners. Anyway there is my non-locking flipper and hope yall like it.

Sorry about the photo quality but I just have an iphone for pics and used natural window light and I still haven't figured out how to get full sized photos right on my postings instead of the darn thumbnails I get?
