Last weekend we went to my family place in Mississippi. It was the first time we had visited my parents there since we bought the place. I was very excited to put my feet on MY LAND. Now I grew up exploring and hunting on this property. It has been in my family since the 1800s. My grandad retired there when I was 8 or so and I spent all my summers there exploring, shooting, fishing, and helping him with his massive garden. This year my sister and I bought the place. Anyway with this crazy summer I haven't been able to visit, so I was excited to finally get there.
I also had a list of goals to accomplish with the visit. Firstly I wanted to walk the boundary and inspect the markers the surveyors put at the corners. The survey hadn't been done since the original one. This actually held up closing for a LONG time. We have some neighbors that looked like they were encroaching to me, but it turns out they weren't, so crisis avoided. Secondly I met with a builder that is going to put up my shop building. I don't know when we plan to move there permanently, we still have at least a decade. But I want to be able to have the shop ready when that happens so I bought a metal building. The builder I hired is going to do the foundation, septic, and power drop. And lastly I wanted to help my parents find a UTV so they can roam the place again, and use it to check the mail and drag the trashcans to the road. Nailed all these goals. See pics.
Then, on the way home there was a squirrel in the road, or so I thought. I swerved around it only to realize it was a tiny kitten. This is a divided highway, the little guy was doomed. So I pulled over, cringed as it miraculously avoided the cars behind me, and ran out and scooped him/her up. It wasn't feral as I had feared and I got it and headed to the car. It had some abrasion style injuries. I think some asshat threw it out of the window of their car. It can barely 'run' at all, so I can't figure any other way those injuries could have happened. People. Anyway I now have a cat. Dr Justin says its a month old tabby barely weaned, believes its a boy even though its so young its hard to tell. And now if I can just get my women to agree on a name...
