We spent the day at Barb's brothers place, got there about 10:30 this morning and got home about 8:30 p.m. and much to our surprise and amazement our power was on!!!! I can tell you that 72 hours without the comforts of electricity is much too long to go involuntarily.:grumpy:
Being in the woods or on a river bank is a whole 'nother story because you don't have the reminders staring you in the face all day and night.:D
Like everyone else we survived it and probably better than most because we didn't have that much in the small freezer or the Fridge.
And Barb and I both know what an Icebox is and that block ice lasts a lot longer than the bagged.
The only thing is now is we don't know what we're gonna do with about 40 pounds of block ice we still have in the Fridge and freezer.
We took what little food we had in the freezer up to Barb's brothers today and ate off of it today so we didn't lose anything there.
The food left in the Fridge is still good and safe to eat. I'm thinking the ice may have actually kept the Fridge colder than what it is normally set at as our milk seemed much colder and I dearly love Ice Cold milk!!!!:D
We may have to turn the Fridge up now.;)
I feel for the younger ones that don't know the old ways and tricks, they still work well.:D

Anyway, I'm back for whatever that's worth.  ;) :D

Good news!

(Although, having to eat melted ice-cream ain't all that bad. Remember when you were a kid and mushing the ice-cream around until it puddled?)

Welcome home, Yuh nSuh.

Good to see you back Bro! To celebrate, Rusty posted a link to the "Phantom" thread!

Yeah, and the first time I had to go back and transpose two numbers to make it work. But it's working now. :D

As I said, "We were fortunate not to have much in the freezer." so we didn't lose anything. The food left was Hot Pockets and the like and didn't get so far gone that they're not refreezable.

I do feel for those who have large freezers maybe a third full that didn't know the old tricks or have the money to buy either water or dry ice to keep things cold enough until the power came back on. A full freezer keeps food colder longer without power but has the disadvantage of not having room for dry or water ice to maintain the temp at freezing or just above.

My biggest problem was the lack of air conditioning as I don't do the heat and heat and humidity well. It was wonderful to sleep with the AC on and the fan blowing on low in my direction last night.
Somehow age has slipped up on me and I have gotten old and soft. My generation wasn't as strong as the previous generations and I think it's getting worse.:(

You should buy a new freezer for the ice. Wouldn't want it go to waste, do you? :) ;)
Actually my friend we're gonna take it up to Barb's brother Merle so they can have it on hand when the other brother Hank and his wife comes in in a few weeks. The extra ice will come in handy for cooling their beer and other alcoholic drinks.
Nothing much goes to waste around here. Even the farts get sniffed up although with a great deal of complaining and Ewwws!!!!  ;) :D
