OK, well the Sebenza passaround/Raffle is underway and is a big sucess so far. I am wanting to see what the Surefire craze is all about so I propose a SureFire Passaround. Since I don't have one or know anyone off hand who would lend one to a passaround, How about this??

-We get no more than 10 people
-Each person pays $7.50 (with 10)
-We buy a SureFire E2e Executive Elite from www.1sks.com ($71.99)
-Passaround (1 week per person)
-Post reviews and send off to the next guy
-At the end of the passaround we raffle it off to one of the participants

What do you guys think?? Not only would it give us non believers a chance to test one out, but we would have a chance to win it as well.

Only problem I can see is the battery needing replaced. I personally am not sure what there life is so maybe we would need to send around an extra battery or two.

Well?? Should my cheap a-s just spend $75 and find out for myself or are there others that would be into this?? Thanks

I've already got an E2e and I love it. I've questioned my knife purchases before, but never the $75 I spent on an E2e.

I carry it every day since it is the perfect pocketable size, unlike the larger Surefires. No other light comes close to the E2e's 60 lumens in such a small (and well designed) package, that's the reason it's so popular. It will completely change the way you look at flashlights, especially if you're used to Mag-Lites and the like.

Instead of doing a passaround, I suggest that you purchase the E2e and sell it off if you don't like it. I've never heard of anyone not liking their E2e (well, except for the people who prefer their E2).

edited to add:

You mentioned something along the lines of "why Surefire when a mini mag costs $10?" in a previous thread of yours. To this, I say: :D. The Mini-Mag's light output is a joke next to the Surefire's. Once you've "seen the light", you're going to wonder how the hell you managed to get by with the puny output of the Mini-Mag.

Yeah your probably right. Truth is that I am a recovering Gambling addict and these Passaround/raffles are a way for me to try to incorperate my two loves :)

Not a bad idea, but supplying batteries will be the problem. The only solution I can see is that each person is responsible for their own batteries.

The group purchases an E2E and a rack of 10 batteries from 1SKS. Each person tosses in $10 and gets to burn a battery. If said person feels the need to burn more than one battery, then this person can purchase some beforehand. Of course, the group could pony up 13 bux apiece right off the top and get a bunch more batteries.

Each person burns his/her allotment of batteries, then throws the batteries away and sends off the remainder and the light to the next person in line. At the end of it all, all of the names get tossed into a hat and one name is drawn to keep the light. The drawing could be done by a neutral party, maybe the guy we buy it from, ol' Spark himself could be coaxed into drawing said name.

Everybody, and I mean everybody, then does a review of the light and posts it in a thread in G&G started for the very purpose.

Any more thoughts?

I'm not interested in the slightest but I thought I would point out two flaws.

The E2E uses TWO batteries and eats them both in a little over an hour.

Also, more than likely, the bulb will burn out before it reaches the last person. Replacement bulb is somewhere around 10 dollars.

Minjin, I think bulb replacement is $16.00 a pop...ouch.

TheBadGuy, if money is an object like it is for me, a Streamlight Scorpion is half the price of an E2E-HA. In my opinion, the only thing the E2E series has over the Scorpion is looks. But I like the rubber on the Scorpion. It provides a good grip, and it is easy on the teeth when you need two hands and a light.

Good luck on the pass-around. Big D1

Minjin, are you suggesting the bulb only lasts 10 hrs? I have an 8x that is 6yrs old, and I have only changed the bulb assembly once. I've gone through 5 of the rechargeable batteries so far. Why are you suggesting the E2e bulb assembly will only last 10 hrs? We are going through with the passaround idea, and have a handfull of people already interested. If you aren't interested, then don't sign up. We'll get 10 eventually. Nobody ever thought the Sebenza passaround would ever happen because of the $35 per person fee, but it is underway right now.

Take Care,

Mike

Just a suggestion - but there's an overabundance of 8NX's at the shop right now. If you guys were interested, get 11 people together to chip in $10 - you'd get a rechargeable light so no worries about batteries. I'll knock the price down to $100 flat, no worries, and you'll have a light that will last and last.

Medic1210 your organizing this thing so it's up to you. But not having to worry about batteries is a very good thing!!:)

Woah there buddy. You're taking a little too much offense at me pointing out a couple things. I really don't care what you do. I just mentioned that theres a good chance that the bulb might not last to the last person. Because of this, you guys should think ahead and plan if that should happen.

The bulb is supposed to have a 20hr life but with abuse (from people who are just passing the flashlight around) it'll obviously last less...

But forgive me for mentioning the possibility.

Well, I already have an 8x, so If you guys want to do that, that's fine by me. I won't be in that one because it is just a Nitrolon version of my light. It is approx. twice as bright as the E2e, but not as portable. Also, one of my supervisors just bought an 8x, so I know how it performs (the same as mine). It does have the advantage of being rechargeable, so you'll end up putting a bit more money in the long run with the E2e since you will have to buy at least 2 batteries for the next guy on the list (approx. $6-8). BTW, $100 is a really good price for that light. Let me know what you guys want to do.

I apologize if it sounded as if I took offense, none was taken. I was just curious about your experience with the lamp assembly. I have not dealt with the E series lights, so I'm sure they are different than my 8x. I was just looking for input, that's all. Hard to tell emotions on the net.

I am in what ever you guys decide. But I would suggest maybe jacking up the price a couple of bucks so we can purchase enough batteries to last the duration of the passaround. Only reason I say that is b/c I am not sure where the batteries are available at a brick and morter and 6-10 of us all buying one battery online and paying shipping might not be the best way to go. Personally I would be suprised if the Surefire got a full hours worth of use when its in my possesion. I plan on using it and evaluating, however I don't plan on going camping for a weekend with it or going coon hunting or anything. So I am in for either one. :)
