What about a website announcement?

I have a custom maker's website online and am ready to disseminate the link. Would this be the appropriate forum to announce it? With some of the current threads I don't want to step on my crank by putting the announcement somewhere inappropriate... :)

I would love to see the new Web Site.HmMMM Let me guess.Bailey Brashaw has his Web Site up and Running.Am I right?I think we need a link.I would love to see it.That is if it is o.k. with the fourum owners/moderators.I dont think you should even have to ask about this one.But you were thinking ahead by asking.

I see no problem in your simply saying that you've gotten a web site going, and that the knives you make may be seen there. I believe what they're trying to avoid could be described as salesmanship. Like, "Go to my site to see the best, best-priced custom priced knives on the web." That ain't cricket.

If that makes you uncomfortable, just simply include the link to your site in your signature. Many of the makers who participate here have that.

I for one, would be happy to have another maker's link to bookmark.
 
Sammy has a good question. I do quite a few web sites (with many more in the works), and not all makers spend any time here to announce their own sites. When Alex announced his last site, the thread was shut down for commercialism. I would not want that to happen to me. A one time announcement of a new web site does not seem overboard to me, as most of us "collect" new sites in our favorites folder. It would seem to me that a one time announcement of a new web site would benefit the custom knife community at large, as much as it would benefit the owner of the site. Beyond that, the site owner, be they a maker, purveyor, supplier, collector or whatever would still have to abide by BF rules to sell their wares, if that is their intent.

Of course, take my opinion for what it is, since I build web sites.
 
I think we should start an annoucement thread that can be used for those types of informational posts.

What do you guys think?

The point of having one thread will be to consolidate the accouncements so that we will not have a page of posts that pertain new websites.

Like anything else if the post takes on the tone of a car-salesman expect it to appear elsewhere on the forums. That can be avoided by posting something about the maker and the knives that avoids commercial fluff.

It would also be a good thing to add the site to the Link Section of Blade forums.

Good ideea! It will make the search for new web sites easier.
