What about an axis Stryker?

I am really looking at getting this knife next year. The Stryker looks awesome. But I'm wondering if anyone else would love an axis Stryker? I know some forumites here post on Benchmade's forum. Perhaps you guys know if there is talk at Benchmade for an Axis Stryker.

Crayola,

I HEAVILY doubt any such thing will come about since Allen Elishewitz recently severed his cooperation with Benchmade.

In fact, i'd be concerned that current Allen Elishewitz designs produced by Benchmade may go away because of this, if one takes a look at the severance with Ernest Emerson for example - then again he went into the factory production business for himself.

Truth is: I dunno what'll happen to currently produced BM/Elishewitz designs, but I can almost guarantee that there'll be no Axis Stryker, sorry.

Chris Caracci severed his relationship a LONG time ago, but they're making an axis AFCK.

Thanks guys.

I e-mailed benchmade and put in a request for an axis Stryker. I also let them know about this thread. We'll see what comes of that.

I would be a buyer of an Axis Stryker. I sold my last 910HS in a fit of liner lock disgust, but I miss it. Excellent handle ergos. Really tough blade.

I have a REKAT Pioneer II which has a very similar handle shape to the Stryker, and just as ergonomic and comfortable. I generally think of it as a good reason to have sold my Stryker. The Stryker was finer though.

The 72X should be very close. I have never handled one though, and the handle design lacks the index finger cutout that the Stryker handle has.

From the info that I can recall from my cranium, I think the 72x series has smaller blades, a more obtuse point geometry and the handle is different. I liek the Stryker better so far. I don't really care for smaller blades in folders. I can carry a circa 4" blade in my pocket as easily as I can carry a circa 3" blade, so I'd rather go bigger in a folder.

That would be pretty cool, but I bet that Benchmade could somehow screw it up. They would probably only offer it with BT2. :barf:

Dennis, perhaps Benchmade would "do the right thing" since they are using D2 and such now! Imagine a D2, satin finished Stryker.... drool.....

.3 inches longer would be nice too, but I'm not pushy!

Psst... hey Benchmade... please make this knife!

The 722 has the identical blade profile as the old 970 CQC7. Same size as well. Only difference: double ground. All said and done, IMHO, the Stryder 910 series was and still is a real winner. I'd vote in a flash for a 910 in an Axis lock configuration.

O.k. Knifenerd and others, here's the deal.

I got an e-mail back from Benchmade, specifically from Travis Noteboom the marketing co-ordinator. He said that there are no specific plans for an Axis Stryker that HE is aware of. But he also said that the engineers, being knife nuts themselves, have all kinds of projects on the go on their desks. In fact, Travis let me know about one project that makes an axis Stryker seem like a boring knife!

Travis also said that they DO keep a spreadsheet going with requests and such. So, your vote DOES count. This I also believe as I was on the Benchmade forum lurking yesterday. I saw a "forum" knife that was a special version of the 710 I believe. IT came about because of the benchmade.com forumites, and them alone.

So, please e-mail, fax, call or write benchmade and ask for an axis Stryker. Maybe we can be the deciding push that gets and Axis Stryker out there. Please help, forumites.

Help me forumites, you're my only hope!!!

:D

I think that BM Forum knife is a PE model 705, CF with M2 and BC1. If you can decode that ;)

I don't know, Crayola, if the addition of the axis lock would adversely affect the "feel" of the Stryker, which has a balance and grip pretty close to ideal. Maybe I just got a good one, but I've alternated carry with my 910HS for probably 2+ yrs. now, and the locking liner still engages at the center of the lock-bar with no blade-play. A GOOD liner-lock works well for me. Would the axis make the handle slightly thicker? Would it increase the handle weight, affecting the balance? I'd have to fondle an axis Stryker to see if I'd like it. It IS an interesting suggestion. I've traded off several BM's (including the 710 and 720) because ergonomics, blade design, and ease of operation and carry, didn't come together suitably for me. But the Stryker is definitely a "keeper", along with the 750. JMHO.

When the Ares was in development, it was rumoured that it was a "rop point Stryker with an Axis Lock" which made me very excited.

I am severely disappointed with the Ares.

I think I would be willing to put aside my dislike of tantos for an Axis Stryker.

The Stryker was my first real knife. Carried it for 3 yrs. I would buy an axis version of it in a heartbeat. I like everything about it and an axis lock would be the only thing about it I'd change.
