What About Boker Knives?

Just got a catalog from them today and breezed through their Magnum series. I don't know who produces the knives in this series, but they all seem based on very familiar designs that pop up in the S&W line of knives and Dollar Store el cheapos. The rest of the Boker products looked good but a bit overpriced.

Does anyone have any experience with Bokers? What's the overall quality like?

I have a Jim Wagner reality based folder. It's needle sharp. Not a very practical edc though.Boker's been making quality knifes for over 300yrs.Mostly all 440C.The Magnum series are made in Taiwan(420)& are a bit low end.I have the same catalog. Most of those prices are inflated. You can find the same knives cheaper on ebay or knifeworks.Hope that helps.:)

Yes, it does, thanks.

I'm looking right now at the Tanto Plus fixed knife, also 440C. Would this be anything better than the Cold Steel G.I. Tanto, which I noticed now comes with grips? The Cold Steel I have is wrapped in paracord around the grips, but the blade is carbon steel.

I know 440C can be a fairly decent steel when it's done right. The question is, does Boker do it right? I'm also wondering how comfortable the handle is on the Boker Tanto Plus.

I do have no experience with the Magnum line.

I do have experience with the Boker Plus Line Chad Los Banos Knives (CLB). I think these are of excellent quality. 440 C on hyper M-type is excellent. On other types Subclaw MPT Wharcom AUS 8 also great.

I have a speedlock (not avialable in US) also excellent although the bladesteel is a bit inferior to topsteels i can get it razorsharp within a breeze.

I have a droppoint Heckler & Koch (produced by boker)
Excellent blade xt-15-n Not fond of the thin linerlock. Handle of balanced to my liking and terrible clip mounted.

Thinking about a Turbine Jr. The Turbines get very positive reviews in Germany/ overhere . More expensive though.

I don't own one so I can't really comment on that particular knife. However I do own an Escrima Fighting Knife done in 440C & it is perfect.I've NEVER been disapointed with a Boker.Their 300+yrs of experience shows in their quality & craftmanship.(this opinion reflects my views on BOKER,not MAGNUM)
P.S. There's a Boker sub-furum on this site. They can probably give you a lot more info than I can.:)

I have a Boker Appalloosa slippy Stockman with Carbon Blades (C75...= to AISI 1075) that I EDC, I absolutly love it. Fit and function is great it walk and talks correctly. I've been leary of the Magnum line myself becuase of the dimestore look to them.

Boker has some amazingly good looking designs. They also have some high prices on several knives I like and would never pay the price they ask. Some of their damascus folders, the tactical styled ones, are simply too much money. I do not mind paying $500 for a Sebenza, or for a Strider, but I will not pay that much for a Boker. I thing the Magnum line has some really good designs and wonder sometimes while Boker, or Boker Plus doesn't take some of those designs and upgrade them. There are several Bokers I would like to have; i.e. thr RJ Martin fixed blade, the AFD folding dagger, and the Boker Plus M-Type folder. I tink there traditionals are good for the money.

I hope they're good, I ordered a boker CLB trance a few days ago. It should show up here on monday.

seriously though, I've heard good things about all the bokers except the magnum series. The Chad Los Banos designs I've heard a lot of good about.

I only have CLB-designed Bokers which are incredible values for the $, but I'll probably have to pull the trigger on R.J. Martin's Rampage when it's released

I Have Boker Sub Coms, and a Red bone carbon stockman.

the design and quality of the Sub coms are very good indeed.
what makes them so special is that the flat design does not scan as a knife
So it is very good for carrying

The Stockman is good quality, with a good F&F.

that Magnum line I generally have no interest in....it seems that Boker is such a large company that they offer something for everyone's budget...but I'd much rather go with a Byrd than any Magnum series knife.......until the Rampage is released, my main interest is in the CLB designed ones.
I believe the SubcomFixed is made in the USA out of 440C..... with its superb ergos only 5.5 inches long around 3 ounces weight, but it fills the hand nicely for such a compact neck knife... I hope Boker decides to release new/diffent blade variants ; maybe even make it out of thinner stock like 3mm (it's pretty thick like around 4mm), maybe tweak the sheath some for slightly better retention....my fave fixed blade from Chad to date.

That would be AWESOME. I really like mine, but it wharnie version with a better (doesn't have to be kydex, though that would be cool) designed sheath. The current one is bit lacking.

3mm would be pretty neat too. I wouldn't really mind if it stayed at 4mm, though. I always carry a mini-light saber Spyderco anyways.

I don't know how often they might consider doing that, but the original Subcom folder came out in 420J2 as a Boker Magnum.

It was such a success, despite the poor steel, that Boker upgraded it to Boker Plus in AUS-8, and the rest is history. :)

I have liked the few bokers I had over the years, my 1st bokr was a top lock II, geat knife! Never had a magnum, but I heard its nothing special, and the prices reflect that...But Boker in general is a decent brand!

You're comparing apples to oranges.
These Damascus folders you won't buy are some of the best of the best.
These knives are not comparable. Users are just that, users. I consider
my old Sebbie a user, but my 084 Leo is in a display.

I just picked up a Magnum large fighter. It is a yearly issue type of knife limited to 2k total. Which seems like alot until you realize they are marketed all over the world. Anyways this knife is superb. A ver high degree of fit and finish and am more than pleased with it. keepem sharp
