Newbie questions . . .

What kind of steel is that?
Is it for sale?
How could one get ones?
Is it already heat-treated?

Thx! :D

Most of the apprentice blades were 5160. They were made during the training of some of the shop people to help develop skills.

Not sure on the heat treat. Jerry would have to chime in on that one.

Few if any have escaped with the front talon hole. Normally these are ground off. (I was lucky enough to find an apprentice Mean Street with the front hole intact, and INFI dimples..... It actually was my very first Busse purchase)

Most that you will encounter will also have cord wrapped handles instead of micarta, but there have been a few exceptions.

Don't know about availability upcoming.

I have seen several at shows for $50 - $100 normally.

One gentleman had one of the drop points as well as a tanto style I'd never seen before. He'd given them to a "sharpener" who proceeded to butcher the heck out of the edges, and diminished, IMHO, the collectability factor of them..
