What about Katz ?

I have long wondered why Katz knives don't seem more popular. I have owned one of there Cheetah 900DP folders for years, and while it is a bit heavy for EDC, it is an extremely well built knife, top quality all the way.

What gives folks??

Are Katz knives good?

I too have a Cheetah, one of only 300 made with stag scales. It's the nicest factory made lockback that I've ever owned.

Mine is the one with the Pachmeyer type scales, but mine does not have the black plastic thumb opening device on the blade. For years I thought maybe it was a factory "mistake", but finally contacted Katz and they said no, my knife was from the very first production run, and they added the thumb opener later. They said that there are not many of the one I have, so I am inclined to hang on to it.

I have either a 300 or 302. I can't remember which one for sure. It is a very well constructed knife. I think it would be more durable that many of the more popular knives. I suspect a combination of shape (blade shape maybe less versatile - more for skinning), weight (heavier than some), and price (more expensive than most) is responsible for it not being more popular. It is a very high quality knife.

On my last trip to Arizona I went by their offices and looked at everything. Not a bad knife at all. Of course I had to walk out with one and there little boot knife was perfect. But I will say, if I had not gone there, I would not have bought one. I try to stay with American made knife when I can. That's not saying anything bad about imported blades, I just try to help the American companies.

I have found Katz knives to be quite nice, and very well made of high quality materials. Their XT80 steel really holds a good edge, but is understandably a little hard to sharpen.
