what about microtechs?

I've used spydies, emersons, cold steels n sogs, but lately I've been eyeing futuristic looking curved blades, like kerambits, recurve blades, and microtech vectors/kestrels.

Are microtechs good? How sharp are they? What is the lock-up like? Ergonomics? Any bladeplay? What about customer service?

I keep seeing MTs on sale on the Exchange. Wonder why? My impression a couple of months back were that they're wickedly sweet mofos (ahem! is that considered cursing? :p sorry!)but are pretty darn ex.

thanks,
spyken

can't wait for the emerson kerambit to be out on production!:D

I prefer the more unusual ones myself ;)

They're made here in South Florida
by the husband/wife team Marfione ;)
I'm looking at the manual action Krestal myself. They supposedly make THE best autos in the business ; so I guess the m/a's should be about the same quality wise.

AET ;)

Nice 'unusal' one if I may say so:eek:

MT are one the finest production knives around. There are alot for sale because when you need money, you sell those knives in your collection that move first.

Nothing sells quicker than a Microtech priced below what the market used to be :(

$20.00 for that MT Neil since someone wrote their name on the box:rolleyes:

Microtech is an awesome quality prodo folder! Ya have to remember that alot of the knives sold in the exchange are to fund customs . . . THAT is not an insult to the prodo being sold;) I recently got an auto amphibian and have been "re-impressed" with MT! They build a great knife!!!!!:D :D

:) looks like nothing but good news....how's the sharpness NIB? how is the heat treat and edge holding? thanks....looks like I'm gonna to get one soon....the wait for the Emerson Kerambit is just too long....:grumpy: :(

If you start buying Microtechs, you'll never be happy with the fit and finish on an Emerson in my opinion. To turn a punny phrase, Microtechs are a cut above. Out of box edges are great, fit and finish are top shelf and at least on every MT I've ever held, the lockup has been fantastic. My Socom Elite locks up like the proverbial bank vault. I feel that the lock is right up there with my small Sebenza.

Quality fit and finish is amazing. The autos lock up very solid and snappy. My favorite production folder. Once you hold one for the first time, your hooked. The lines on my mini-socoms are dern near perfect.

Cheers,
Hal:)

I currently own only two Microtechs--an LCC/DA and a Tachyon--and they definitely won't be my last. They are really well made and when I picked up the LCC for the first time I was hooked. It is my dominant EDC right now and I don't see that changing for awhile unless I get a custom.

Ira,
YES I was showing off ;) Brends large knives are works of art. The grind on the MT Tanto is unbelieveable!!!

I REALLY WANNA GET A SOCOM Elite.

Although they are a bit pricey for me due to the bad currency exchange rate.

However, I'd like to ask Microtech owners who use it for hard use:

Do the 154CM blades on Microtech SOCOMs have a better treatment than other 154CM and ATS-34 blades on the knives of more mainstream manufacturers (e.g. Benchmade, Spyderco, SOG,...)?

I'd have to be able to justify buying a 154CM bladed knife when other manufacturers have models in CPM 440V or tool steels like M-2 and D-2 for about the same price.

MT are definitely better fit and finish than Emersons. Lock up on the socom elite is solid. I like Emersons and was going to buy but I spent the money on MTs because of the quality.

Problem with MT is too few manual actions. Autos are illegal in some states.

I am a bona fide Sebenzanista, but I will say that Microtech gives CRK a run for the money when it comes to quality and capability. My manual SOCOM Elite and auto L-UDT and Amphibian are as close to perfect as anything short of a good custom knife. Fit and finish are legendary. Too sharp too play with! :D

Definitely worth the money. I keep away from the Combat Talons, Halos, etc., because I c-c-couldn't afford that addiction, too

Microtech are the top of the line. But Pro-Tech are big time
footsteps.Yo Tony, hear them comming?:p

Sharpness is as good as ANY knife out there . . . INCREDIBLE! Heat treat is as good as any prodo I've had too.
