What about S5 ?

Well that last thread sure didn't yield much! I was reading about the toolsteel S5 and how it's superior to S7 for edge retention. I see S7 mentioned alot here . Would anyone have any experience with S5? Oh yeh I would be using it to make a splitting axe.

The shock steels are starting to get some use now in heavier knives. S5 offers slightly higher hardness than S7. These are steels which are designed to resist fracture at a decent hardness very much ideal for such tools.
