What about these Tanto folders?

Hello forumites!

I seem to have a problem with losing knives! My benchmade Sentinel has been lost for a while (I think due to a bent clip) and I have misplaced my CRKT Companion that I just got in a trade! SHEESH! And as of yesterday my AFCK, the last of my quality folding cutlery, as gone AWOL. I should find that one though.

Anyways, I'm thinking of getting a new folder after the new year. It will have to be production. Being a poor student is lots of fun :p
I was thinking of a benchmade Stryker or a CRKT M-16 with the green handle hand black blade. Whatever I get, I'd like it to be around 4" long (blade length) and no serrations. Any ideas folks? Thanks!

The Emerson CQC-7 is available with green g-10 scales. Not sure about the black blade with the green though. The CRKT has the cool flipper and Billy Joe Bob Dan really could use the royalty check.;) :D

I lost my CRKT M16-04 Tanto in Sept., and still keep trying to find it somewhere in the house so I understand how you feel. It was a great knife, and you couldn't go wrong with it IMHO.

Hi Crayola, the M16 you refer to is one of these:

These have the 1* (one-ass-to-risk) logo and are teflon coated partially serrated blades. Unfortunately, they are not available with plain edges.

Thanks for the info guys.

Indeed, that is the M-16 to which I was referring, and saddened am I to hear that they don't come in plain edges! I had a different M-16 that I traded as it was small. Not only was the blade smaller than I prefer, but my hand didn't really fit the handle.

Maybe I'll have to take another look at the Stryker. Or, as has happened befor eon the forums, you folks may come up with a novel idea that I can't help but be swayed by!

The 910 Stryker has been one of my favorites for a few years and appears to still be a big seller for BM. The grip is one of the most comfortable out there. Due to it's rounded contours, it also carries well in a variety of positions.

Crayola, if you don't mind a chisel grind, the Emerson CQC-7B is still a good choice. If you want a beefier, larger folder, check out the Buck Strider. It's ground on both sides unlike the Emerson.

El Cid:

I'm not sure if I would like a chisel grind. I've never had one, so I should try one some time. If I have it correctly, I think the Emerson CQC7's are something like 3.3" long too, and ground on the left side. Definitely something to add to the list to check out.

A Strider Tanto would be cool!

Thanks everyone.

I recommend the BM Stryker. I have had mine for a few years now and it somehow always comes back to being my main carry knife. It's a workhorse of a knife and very comfortable to carry.

(Two) more pretty good choices:

REKAT Pioneer.
Cold Steel Voyager (or Gunsite).

I'm a poor college student too, so I know how it is to lose knives :(

Let me suggest the MT Socom. You won't be dissapointed.

PS: Over the holidays I think I'll get a Waved CQC-7 and I'm torn between a plainedge CRKT M16-03 in spearpoint or a Boker/Brend folder.

Have you considered a BM 722? I'm not particularly a fan of tanto blades. Or at least I wasn't. But now, the 722 is one of my favorite, if not my very favorite, every day carry knife. The only problem with it is w.r.t. your requirements: its blade is only 3.25 inches long.

I really like the look of those CRKT tanto blades above. Are those frame-locks? What is the handle material? And the blade material? It isn't AUS-6 is it?

Rockspyder:

The knives are AUS-8, not AUS-6. They have annodized aluminum handles as well. The grey handled tanto I had w/o flipper sure was good. THe handl never really showed any marks or such. I think that Aluminum can take a ding or small dent if you smack it on something, but I never cared about that. My M-16 never got smacked on anything though. The locks are liner locks, however, the liner on the one I had was very good. Probably the 2nd or 3rd best liner lock i have handled. My AFCK (I FOUND IT!) has the ebst liner lockup I have ever seen. I really lucked out and got a good one. I wish I would have got the uncoated, plain edge version though instead of the coated, combo edge one. Oh well ;)

Thanks for the other suggestions folks. I'll look at everything else you have suggestes. I couldn't find pics of the Socom Tanto yesterday. I'll just have to look harder :)

My BM 910s is the only knife that I will never part with.It has all of the features that I like in a tac/edc knife.Go to a shop and handle several different knives then handle a Stryker. You just might like them as much as I do.tom.

What about the "Lum-to" by Spyderco? Just about a four inch blade, and available in a variety of configurations. They are plentiful, so finding a good deal on one shouldn't be all that hard- there's probably a decent one for sale on the exchange forums now and again.

Perhaps a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for, and the quality is definitely going to be there.

Just a thought-

I had a Lum tanto breifly and didn't find it so appealing. Maybe if it had a better blade to handle ratio.
