What AK-47 handle material are you guys getting and why?

I just can't decide which material to go with since I can only get one AK-47. If there were interchangable handles like pistols that would be cool but back to reality.

Since, I live in the desert I am a little worried about the aluminum handles getting really hot if I use it in the yard. Also, does the color come off easily, since this bad boy will definitely be a user.

The micarta on my other Busse's has worked flawlessly, but does something this unique and cool deserve something special?

Then there is the radioactive green G-10. Definitely something special but I have not had really any experience with the material.

I guess, I want something very grippy, that will continue to look good while be abused and used.

P.S. I can't wait to take this bad boy on duty and see what my boss has to say :D

I'm probably going with Tiger and Black combo... I'm the opposite of you, but know what you mean. Aluminum isn't our friends :D ;) Tiger Stripe micarta for me.

WOW! That's 36 AKs by my count! Using just the base price without the cost of the upgrade combos, that should put you in at over $21,000. Man, I need to start hangin' with Heavy. :)

I think everyone will be just as happy with G10, as they will be with the micarta.

Yeah. And the G-10 is greater for self defense ;) Mid draw and your foe will be puking, thus giving you the upper hand :D :p

Black blade finish and Tiger canvas handle for me!!! Oooor Black blade finish with Desert Tan canvas handles...

I DON'T KNOW. I was basing everything around a DC finish but... :(

Does anyone here besides Santi ;) Plan on stripping the finish from the blade? I'm wondering how it would look.

I was talking to Jerry about removing the finish and he said he would not recommend it. The reason is that with a long blade that is this thin, any uneven removal of material will cause it to warp. Simply removing the finish might be O.K. (and might not), but the blade finish will be rough and any sanding, bead blasting or any other stock removal will most likely warp the blade. I doubt Jerry is going to warranty warped blades do to refinishing by the owner on these, but you will have to check with him.

I would say No. He will warranty any UNINTENTIONAL damage. Thus modifying your knife would be consider intentional damage and would not be covered.

Ok I see the Busse site is up and AKs can be ordered. Can anyone tell me what the advantages of an aluminum handle would be? The AK with aluminum is 36 ozs. and with micarta/G10 is 30 ozs. so if the blade stock is the same on all, the balance point would be different.

Also, we all know aluminum will get real hot if left in the direct sun and real cold in winter conditions. I would still order one if someone can tell me what the advantage(s) might be over micarta/G10.

Jerry, G10 comes in many nicer color combos.:barf: Whey did you pick neon green? On sale?:D

Well, I had a Job interview yesterday, and if I get the job, I hope to get one in Jungle Shadow Camo and black mircarta. But that beater green.... its so ugly its apealling... If only I could get two... I wonder how long these will be up for?

you can anodize it to whatever color you want if you have an electro anodizer...

might add stiffness to the handle? though even if it did, it would be so utterly minute as to how much you could tell by hand that it wouldnt really be of any benefit...

OK Jerry, I'm not a hippy but it will make an impression so I will have to order one in that handle material. Now just have to decide which blade finish will make the best contrast. What do you think?
