I purchased a Spydeco Sharpmaker, as suggested my many good folks on this board, and it works GREAT, (shavin' sharp) on my J.A. Henckels chefs knives, standard issue Buck knives, (folding and fixed), an Old Henry Golden Spike, my SAK's, mixed Gerbers and Cold Steel knives owned by friends, and my BK&T Campanion, but I CAN NOT get it to sharpen my CRK&T M16-04!!!! The edge seems to be profiled, judging by the "felt tip pen test". I use a steel regularly. I claen the stones, to avoid loading, and then I clean them again, just to be sure. I have used honing oil. Fast, slow, sitting down, standing up, doesn't matter. What am I doing wrong??

I normally don't use oil. What I was trying to say is that i'm not sure what else to try.

Try this. don't go too fast and don't go too slow, just go half-fast. maybe that will work;) Honestly, I dont know why. I think they used AU8 steel and it should sharpen right up. My Tanto was "re-shaped" to be a not a Tanto and it was very easy to put a super edge back on it and I am a pathetic novice using an apex.....wolf

If you have to seriously re-profile the edge of your M-16, it will be a long, agonizing process on the 204. It is not designed for major re-profiling. It can be done, but it's a tough process.

Spyderco is coming out with diamond hones for the 204 after the first of the year, which will make the job much quicker and easier.
