What and how did you tweak your knife that made it better than it was?

Like add lanyard, file or grinding off a little here and there, adjusting/ replacing the screw (I love those flat screws), or handle. So, what did you do?o_O

I have recently saw off a chunk of handle so that it can have a better grip around nail nick to open blade with less effort.;)

Usually I just sharpen 'em. Did a little reshaping of a Marble's Fieldcraft with a Dremel as the grind was off a bit but that's about the extent of my mods.

I think I've modified just about every knife I've ever owned.

Swapped out thumbstuds and pocket clips, sanded off rough or sharp edges on liners or handles, ground off jimping, ground in sharpening coils, sanded off blade coatings, enlarged openings in the handle of liner locks to make the lock more easily accessible, ground off humps or finger-groove points to reshape a handle, bent out pocket clips to loosen them, installing thumbstuds on knives with no thumbstuds, drilling holes in handles for better grip, made custom backspacers.

Im sure there's more, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

I was very fortunate that I started learning how to use tools at a young age. I like that I dont have to accept a knife, or anything else, the way it comes. I like being able to make things the way I want them to be.

Kershaw Leek... take the clip off and use it like a regular pocket knife. Feels better in the hand during use, and rides just fine unclipped.

Benchmade Mini Grip... add a set of AWT aluminum scales and prepare to say "WOW" alot! (Deep carry clip too, remember)

Scales and clips mostly.

I will adjust to make them right-blade not centered or any form of play. I will fool with them until I am happy. Other than that sometimes do a scale swap or have a scale made
Nothing major

Add appropriate sharpening choils, sharpen out any recurve on the blade, thumb grooves on the spine, JBWeld the guard to blade gap. Patina if appropriate sometimes add a finger groove.

Benchmade Griptilian 551. Made it much much better by sharpening. Great knife, love it, but had to be the dullest knife OOTB ever. Also bought Alum scales for it but haven't put them on.

All my balisongs get a little work. Bushing pivots get hand fitted, washers get replaced, latches get thrown in the garbage. All regular pocket knives get disassembled and oiled with some KPL heavy, and a mediocre sharpening job :D

I've re-profiles a couple of knives to get a better angle. I will also take a sand paper and smooth down the slabs if they don't fit right. Otherwise, I don't mess.

Every knife I carry except for a 3.5" stockman is modified, not scale or clip swaps, but complete reshaping of blade and handle. The sole purpose is to make them better for my use.

Reprofiled my XHP Kalashnikov 74 to 30° inclusive using the diamond plates from my Worksharp field sharpener taped to the ceramic rods on my Sharpmaker. Then put a 20 dps microbevel using the same technique. Extremely easy to touch up now and slices like a dream.

If my Opinels are going to be pocket-carried, I trim the handles so they ride better in the pocket. I usually file the trailing points into a drop point. On a knife with the newer lock ring setup, I Dremel off the limiting nub and grind a second ramp in the ring so I can turn it either way to lock it.

I often have to modify the heel of a handle if it digs into my palm with a sabre grip.

On a coated blade, I usually strip the coating, or at least scrape it smooth if it has a crinkle finish.

I used a Dremel to give a little more access to the liner lock on my Spyderco GB 2. Transformed it from a pain to unlock to my favorite knife. Also put some Micarta scales on it.

Pic recycled...
