Hey yall,

What angle do you reccomend for edc? Im a full time student so its mainly light tasks.

Main EDCs:

SOG Twitch XL Tini
SOG Visionary 1
Benchmade 943 (most of the time)

I use a lansky deluxe so my choices are: 30*, 25*, 20*, and 17*

Thanks in advance and Cheers!

For everyday "student" use I would go with either 20 or 25 degrees. If you're cutting a lot of cardboard or paper I would use 20 and touch it up occasionally. You'll figure out pretty quick what angle will last longer for your tasks. What kind of stuff are cutting mostly? Ramen wrappers? (just kidding)

I don't see any reason not to go with 17°

Sp long as you aren't chopping anything, and don't mind the occasional touch up I'd go with the sharpest setting.

How do you use the knives? What degree edge do you have on each knife now?

I used my Wicked Edge and went 17 degrees on my Benchmade 940 -- one of my main EDCs. No chopping and medium duty use for me. The S30V seems to be holding an edge fine so far -- just went 17 degrees over the holidays. I realize I will have to touch it up occasionally but that is enjoyment for me. For my others knives I am around 20 degrees give or take a degree. Maybe try 17 degrees on the 943 given its S30V and see how you like it?

Mainly used to open food packages or plastic packaging and some paper here or there. I haven't had the lansky too long and have been doing 25* on some of my Gerber knives to practice and I'm not very happy with the sharpness. I tried 20 on a cheap fixed blade and I definitely like it better. I think I'll probably do 20* on a few of my cheaper knives and see how I like them then maybe move to 17*.

Bring the edge to 17 degrees and then put a 20 degree micro edge on the knife. This should make for a better slicer and still give you a stronger or longer lasting edge. IMO

I agree with rptrsn. I use a 15 degree per side and then touch up at 20 degree per side for a micro-bevel. I use an Edge Pro for the initial bevel and then a Sharpmaker for the quick microbevel touch-ups.
