What angle to sharpen on?

My Izula needs to be resharpened and I am not sure what angle to us for it. The lansky sharpener I have has a 30, 25, 20 and 17 degree angle that I can use. What would be the best one? I use my Izula for pretty much everything.

Knives at the factory have a hand-applied edge of ~20 degrees.

Since it's hand applied it may vary 1-2 degrees but if you use the 20 degree setting you should be good to go!

Aye, +/-20 degrees is the factory edge. To compensate for the 1 or 2 degrees i start on the medium stones with plenty pressure, then continue with little pressure as is normal.

Or you could just throw angles out the window and convex it. Then you will never have to worry about a precise angle again. Makes maintaining it a lot easier, A few passes on a charged strop and you are ready to go again. A little work in the beginning saves a lot of sharpening later. OK now I guess I need to add IMHO and YMMV

the izula is what I tried the lansky on when it was introduced to me
....used it on 20 degrees...
I've always free handed.... but man...
that Lansky system...beyond sharp and beyond easy...

I bought one. after nearly 4 decades of free hand too.

This is what I do!

Works like a charm and I can get my knives SUPER SHARP this way :D

It also makes for a very portable sharpening system.

Or you could just throw those crazy angles out the window and effing convex it, man. Then you will never have to worry about a precise angle again. Makes maintaining it so easy you can do it naked in the bathtub and high on barbiturates, mescaline and ether. A few passes on a charged strop and you'll have a gonzo edge. A little work in the beginning leaves more time for epic experiments with heinous substances later. OK now I guess I need to add IMHO and YMMV

edited for gonzo points!

Editing is a long plastic hallway full of pimps and thieves where good men go to die like dogs..... and then they are its bad points.

Sorry but I have to take offense to your use of heinous. You should probably change it to fascinating :D.
