What are MOLLE attachments?

I've been doing a lot of research on backpacks and really would like to have a variety of pockets or separate storage compartments. I keep coming up with references to MOLLE attachements or accesories. Can some tell me what this means, what they are, or what is required for attachment. Is it the straps with loops that look kind of like a shotgun shell bandelero that are attached to the packs? Would this be a good alternative to packs with separate compartments?

MOLLE is a modular system that (I believe) Is now in use by the US Military, and Law Enforcement Agencies. To use the system, you need 2 items with MOLLE loops (Ex, a bag and a pouch, or a vest and a holster) and the corresponding MOLLE clips, which I believe come in only 2 sizes.

These are MOLLE loops... (note around the stomach)

In My Opinion, Yes.. MOLLE is a great way to add the space you need to a single/double compartment bag.
