What are my options for roughing up titanium scales?

Just picked up a Kizer in trade I like it a lot, but the scales are entirely smooth. Since it's going to be a user I wouldn't mind doing some work on it, any suggestions on roughing up the scales fro better grip?

Ti gets shiny when worked much, think how a scratch looks. It's only satin finished when it has been blasted. Maybe a really course sand blasting...?
