It seems like a decent and handy little pocket knife for the money. I like the fact that it uses 440c Steel. And I've never read a bad comment about the company.

Also, where does CRTK fall in the qualityn foodchain comapred to Spyderco? Are the on par? Slightly lower end?

Thanks again,

Christopher

but I can't recommend the meerkat. Anything but that one. CRKT is great. They are below Spyderco in blade steel mainly. They seem to use AUS 6 mostly. I happen to like 6A myself, but I am a minority I am sure.

CRK&T makes a good knife for the $$$ but I wouldn't put them on par with Spyderco.

I can't comment on the Meerkat because I don't have one.

I own several Spydercos and several CRKT knives and I believe CRKT is 100% on par with Spyderco in the fit-and-finish department.
CRKT gets their designs from some of the best custom knifemakers around (such as: Ed Halligan, Kit Carson, Michael Walker, Pat Crawford, Howard Viele, Bob Kasper, Greg Lightfoot, just to name a few) and there is'nt anything wrong with AUS-6 (even Spyderco uses it on some models).

On the other hand I don't like liner-locks as much as lock-backs (CRKT uses alot of liner-locks while Spyderco uses alot of lock-backs) and the Spyderco Compression-lock is very nice too.
Even though I don't like liner-locks much, the LAWKS system used by CRKT makes them almost fail-proof.

I do wish that Spyderco had more models with steel or titanium liners and with the Compression lock.

Overall, I think they are totally comparable. It just depends if you like thumb-studs or Spyder-holes.

I have'nt actually handled a Meerkat yet but the Phantom-lock is very interesting. I'll probably try to find one to inspect sometime this week.

Good luck,
Allen.
