What are some alternatives to the Para2?

Hey guys, I've been eyeballing the Paramilitary 2's lately but the blade thickness is putting me off a bit. Are there any favored knives that have a little less thickness, say in the 3mm range? I've heard good things about the Manix 2, and I like a lot of Benchmade designs, but I have no experiences with any of those. I actually like the Griptilian a lot, but find the handles to be way too thick to carry. Can't slide my hand past them into a pocket easily. I would definitely appreciate the input.

The Manix 2 is thicker....

The Endura 4's are thinner.

But the Para 2 has that Distal tapered blade that really makes it a good slicer.

I know...I'm feeling kinda compelled to buy it, but my Centofante3 turned out to be such a good, sturdy slicer that I feel a bit spoiled. I noticed some other knives like the Osborne 940 that fall into that range as well. And the Military seems awesome though it is even thicker. I'm looking for something a bit longer than the Centofante, but not a great deal thicker. The Manix2 is thicker you say? I was just going by the Spyderco website, which claims the PM2 is 3.5mm, the Manix2 is 3mm, and the Caly 3/3.5 is 3mm, while the Mil is 4mm.

It really doesn't get much better than the Military.... Slicing wise. :D

Don't let the spine thickness fool you.

I'd imagine the Military and Para would have no problems out-slicing the Centofante.

Oh man you're just making it worse, haha. The Military is roundabout the size I'd prefer. I have a lot of smaller folders, and the old CS Voyager XL I have is a bit too big to pull out at work.

What is your basis for that comparison?

I usually carry a Military or a Para 2 at work.

I owned 2 Militarys, a Para 1, Para 2, and Centofante 3 and 4. Maybe it's personal preference but the full flat grind goes through materials a whole lot easier(used them for mainly cardboard). The little bit extra blade length goes a long way too, I notice it's far less likely for the blade to slip out when cutting some larger pieces. And I do prefer S30V over VG-10.

Between the Military and Para 2 though, the blade length difference is actually pretty minimal. I personally never liked the Para 2 much because the compression lock digs into your hand when you're holding it in a hammer grip.

So far is sounds like the Military is the way to go. No one speaking up for Benchmade? I really have no experience with them beyond handling in the store. The Osborne 940 seems like a competitor for the Military.

710 is more of a Military competitor than the 940. 3.9" blade, G-10 handles. If I'm somewhere where carrying a 4" knife isn't a problem, the Military wins for me, but not by much... both are excellent knives.

I find the handle on the short side on the 710 personally.
