A friend got the knife bug through me. He's a big burly guy. I was at a loss as to what folders to recommend him because he has huge paws. So...what are some folders with big handles? He likes Emersons, but how big are their handles? His budget is around 200ish.

EDIT: He does not like Spyderco because of looks, nor does he like Cold Steel for mall ninja-ry.

spyderco military and paramilitary have large handles, check those out.

Ooops. I forgot to mention he's not a fan of Spyderco (I will edit that into my first post). Doesn't like the looks. Ideally, he wants a folder with a big handle and a bowie blade (clip point I suppose).

hmm, well that is a downer, maybe the benchmade 741 it has a large handle, and a blade shape similar to a clip point.

The emerson a100 has a fairly large handle. Similar to the bm710 in size. The spyderco military also has a nice large handle. Thats all I can think of for now:)

BM Onslaught...damn, I forgot about that one. The 710's handle may be too thin for him as well. This guy competes in MMA, weighs 275 off season, drops to 215-240 for competition, and is 6 foot 8ish.

full sized emerson cqc-13 (or the 8)

BIG knives, big handles too. had a full sized 8, really liked it. big but not too big, actually. too close to the legal limit though, and hard to carry discretely when youre as small as I am.

He could try a Buck 110, a BM Grip or a Rift (not a Bowie blade, though). Some of the Emerson's do have large handles if you don't mind dealing with their grinds

GA is close to passing an amendment to our "weapons" law. As I understand, soon we'll be able to carry fixed blades (and they define fixed as a knife with a blade over 5 inches). They replaced firearm with "weapon" in an amendment to our concealed carry laws. My point was that blade length most likely won't be an issue.

Your friend might find the ZT0300, 301, or the 302 just the ticket for big paws:cool:

There are still a few Camillus CUDA MAXX folders around with a 5.5 inch clip point blade and a similar sized handle. I just bought one for $210 on this forum.

The Benchmade Rukus it the biggest folder I've handled:

Retribution I, exactly what I was going to mention. In fact I have been modifying mine for over 3 weeks, and have it here in front of me still slowly sanding down the grips for pocket carry. This grip/handle was designed by Jerry Hossom, and is the fixed blade version that he builds so it is a handful and a great fit for large hands. Blade is N690Co, and the knife is made in Italy. Great fit/finish, plus it can be had for around $140.

Hossom Ret. 1 looks good. I think he'd like that as well as the CQC 13 (which I already recommended to him).

Hey hark, email me and I will give you the place I got mine from and probably the best price online.

too bad he doesn't like Cold Steel, the Espada is one Big bad folding bowie.

And now I want to live in GA....

I will go off topic for a sec. The bill would allow colleges to let CCP holders carry (firearms and knives) on campus, which is why I want it to pass so bad. Most of the big colleges are in downtown Atlanta. For the past couple years, students have been getting mugged or worse. A guy was shot and died earlier this month on campus where I frequent. I'll be there even more when I start grad school. The bill has to get approved by House and then the governor.

Back on topic. Any good reviews of the Hossom? DOn't hear too much about that one.
