What are some high quality brands that aren't often discussed here?

After I finally figured out how to use my Edge Pro Apex sharpening system properly, I went digging into my pile of knives that are (improperly) stuffed in one of my desk drawers. I wanted to sharpen up another nice one, like I did my Spyderco Techno. I found a Klotzli that I've had for about ten years, and I wondered:

This is a nice knife. Why don't I read about Klotzli's on Bladeforums? For the most part it's ZT, Benchmade, Sebenza, Syderco, wash, rinse, repeat. Those are nice, but is that all there is?

Who else is out there making high quality production folders that we really don't read about much?

I would say Mcusta. After seeing pictures of his Mcusta knives that a good friend of mine posts here from time to time, I've become interested in buying one. They're just exceptionally beautiful. I don't see many folks here with them, and not much discussion goes on. Now, that said, I am speaking primarily of Genpop, there might be discussions going on in other sections I have not seen.

Mcusta's a big one. As is Maserin.

another vote for William Henry and Mcusta. another brand that gets mentioned a lot when discussing fixed blades is Fallkniven, but their folders don't get mentioned very often and they are fantastic knives.

TOPS doesnt get much love considering how large their company, and product range. They make the most varied, yet task specific knives ive ever seen. Theyve got atleast over 100 different models. Their craftsmanship is top notch, designs are (mostly) phenominal, and most of their blades are a hell of a bargain.

Shadowtech is another great brand ive never seen mentioned here.

And what about ECOS? Damn fine products.

Also a big fan of Fox; Wheres the love?

My friend collects william henrys. I mean theyre nice knives obviously, but I never got the "high quality" vibe from them. They seemed to more fit in the niche of "look at how much money I have!".

Who REALLY uses a william henry? Hes got 4, all with diamonds, rubies, and very rare fossilized handle materials, but I can almost guarantee it will never out perform any benchmade or spyderco.

Maybe you should get one and spend some time with it before you pronounce judgement on a knife you apparently know nothing about. Just a thought . . .

Who REALLY uses a william henry?

Me. :) And I'll guarantee you I'm not alone.

They do make the ED series for every day carry, they did beat out Chris Reeve last year for the quality award, I think it was last year. But william henry knives are not my thing. I have a Klotzi aac1, nice knife.

I'd say Hogue as well. They get mentioned from time to time (usually in a thread like this). Very nice quality and something a little different.

Klotzi is probably a nice knife...not made around here, but I've seen some nice designs.
Wm Henry is great; I've had several. Hogue is good but rather new in this market.
Each of us has our preferences. I could be quite happy with four folder brands and one fixed. But, it's nice to have so many fine brands to pick from.
