What are some overlooked Buck Knives?

I picked up a Alpha Dorado over the summer with the S30V. It really hasn't gotten much pocket time and to be honest, I don't really know why. It might be because it is the only knife I own that is a linear lock and I'm used to back locks. With the rosewood scales and the thumbstud and steel, it is a nice blend of old meets new. It doesn't seem to get talked about either good or bad on the net. I really need to carry it more than I do and put it though the paces.
Another knife I don't remember or haven't seen much info on is the Odyssey. That looks like another one I missed out on and will probably pick up, but I'd like to come across one in person to look it over.
Anyone care to mention some Bucks that aren't as popular or have been discontinued that seem to get overlooked? Pictures welcome.

I think my second favorite Buck folder….the Paradigm seems to be overlooked.

The Paradigm took a little getting used to, but becomes very natural to open one handed…and quickly!!

Some are overlooked and some are ignored. Here is a 129 Fillet Knife with Spoon. Essentially it is a modified 123 LakeMate. It appeared in the catalog 1989-1991. I kind of think of it as Buck's version of the Ford Edsel: it might have been a good idea but not the style for the time.

Another over looked model was Buck's 402 Akouna. The Kalinga 401 was brought out at the same time and became a classic. Much more popular than the Akouna. Still, to me the Akonua was the better designed knife. DM

Thoes lake mates are a awesome knife! Ive cleaned hundreds of fish with mine. Also i think another overlooked knife is the buckmaster. Theres very little info out there for them.

Really!!?? Gee, you need to get out more. The Buckmaster Book by Richard Neyman..... 352 pages.
How many other knives have a complete book written about them?
Overlooked...I'd say not.....
Over hyped & priced...I'd say yes..... (fight'n words to some I'm sure... :D )

The current kitchen knives seem overlooked to me.....
I think they are splendid though ;)
Everyone needs a set of these in their kitchen!

Desoto, i spoke with him the other day. And had some help from a fellow member. But if i was just on the net, or talking amongst the average collector. Not much would be told. Just not to common, u know?😊

Start using that Alpha Dorado. I bought mine 'used' here in the classifieds, and it has become my favorite EDC. Small, but built like a tank, it's on my belt right now.

Those look great. Was planning on ordering the elk handled set for my wife and I as a Christmas gift this year but it appears to be missing from the new website. Wish I'd pulled the trigger on it sooner.

The 151 Mayo Kaala seems overlooked, and now dis-continued. It was sold as a skeleton neck knife, but I saw great potential in it. Here is my wife's and my 151's.

I wish Buck would re-incarnate this model with added handle scales.

Those look great!! I picked one up when the were still available using my BCCI discount. I've thought about putting a handle on it but didn't want to loose the ability to keep using the neck sheath. If I could do as nice a job as you I may not care about the sheath.

Thank you for the kind words Bad. It does kill the ability to use the neck sheath, so I made a pocket sheath with clip for mine.

Wow that's a great looking knife. I can't believe they weren't a big seller. I'm sorry I missed the boat on those.

That's a great idea for a sheath. Nice job~

As far as overlooked models go I like the 600 series and the Nighthawks. Both are out of production but you can find them on the big auction site. The 600 series are basically the 119, 120 and a couple of other fixed blade models with kraton handles. The 639 is another one that's kind of a cross between the 119 and the Buckmaster.

The Nighthawk series is another run of fixed blades with different blade lengths, blade coatings and handle colors. I prefer the ones made before the Tops collaboration with the holes in the blade. You can still find the Nighthawks at good prices, even for NIB models. Very well made and not overly tactical in appearance. Don't have any photos of my 600 series blades but here are some of my Nighthawks including my 651 Pigsticker.

Stumps, you did a good job on the handles of your Mayo. The sheath looks like a good job as well. DM

Thanks DeSotoSky. I love that photo. I guess I should clarify my earlier comments. The Nighthawk series knives are also 600 series like the ones you posted above. I just always refer to them as Nighthawks and not 655 or 650 models. In my mind the "600 series" are the standard Buck models with kraton handles. Regardless I like them all.
