What are Spyderco's thoughts on S30V?

Obviously they like it, because a lot of the line-up will be sporting it. I know that Spyderco doesn't just jumpo on the bandwagon. They do extensive testing. How did S30V hold up? Where does it shine? What are the weaknesses (everything has a weakness I would say even S30V does )? Is it all its cracked up to be? What does Spyderco consider the ideal rc for this steel?

I'm curious about this too as I have not seen any info relating to the properties of S30V. I really like Spyderco's CPM-440V so, I hope S30V will be even better.

In our testing, S30V is superior to S60V in edge retention (abrasion resistance) and toughness. We have not found it to be significantly superior in corrosion resistance.

Overall, it is quite the performer. Edge retention graphs are almost flat, especially on serrated versions tested. We'll be converting to S30V on most USA made models.

Since I got it 24 hrs ago, I have put my CPMS30V Native to mass slaughter of cardboard boxes left over from our move to a new house. And it is still scary sharp. I am getting nervous... What if I can't make it dull? This thing is VASTLY superior to the old GIN-1 Native I had.

It's great that Spyderco is making these upgrades in their steel with more and more S30V being used as well as VG-10 (which I haven't used, but have heard good things about it).

As a confirmed axis-lock addict (something about being a lefty who doesn't want to pay extra for left-handed knives) being exposed to the Spydie-virus, I can only hope that the other knife companies take a page from Spyderco's book. And if not, I'm game for lockbacks.

Not VG10 Sal but S30V, the Chris Reeve forums and Strider forums have reported suspected edge problems with this steel.

thombrogan-Have you tried the Military left handed?I am one of those who is left handed on somethings and right handed on other things.I can,after a little practice open,use and close the Military left handed with no problem and I normaly use my right hand in useing kinves.Feels good to shoot a pistol left handed and use a knife right handed.

I'm wrong handed and I won't compromise. I'd LOVE to purchase a lefty Military, especially one crafted from s30v, but until it comes out lefty specific I'll skip it.
