I just ordered a BK 18 Harpoon from _______Kabars. I am starting to have second thoughts. What are the advantages and disadvantages. This will be my 2nd BK. First is a BK2 I bought 10 years ago.

A nice sheath. Your fingers will be pretty safe if your trying to push through a sweet potato on a cutting board.

It lighter/easy to carry. It will cut better than a BK2. With the swedge design it wouldn't be great to baton logs with.

In short it will be better at knife things and worse at axe/prybar things.

The handle on the “tweeners” fits my hand way better than the large Beckers. This helps tremendously with fine work such as precise cutting or carving.

Once you buy one, BK-18 in this case, you will lust after the BK-16 and 19!

Welcome to the rabbit hole!

Like Roguer said Micarta handles really make a difference. I use my 18 in the kitchen quite often it’s a great slicer.

BK2 and a BK 18 do make a great pair at camp - for former for fire prep and the latter for food prep. I love them both!

Trailing edge knives are so useful for so many things that I use knives for and the BK18 does have that lovely sweep to the edge. Add that sharp/pointy tip and it's a winner!
