folders? I got a chance to hold one a couple years ago and was /very/ impressed with the quality, fit and finish. I have no idea what model it was.

Thanks very much again,

Christopher

Benchmade has restructured their product line to include imported knives. You will have to be a little more careful in buying their offerings from now on as the knives are no longer 100% made in their US factory.

I guess it depends on what you call entry level. Based on cost and quality you could not go wrong with the Benchmade Griptillan line. Cabelas Sporting Goods has the Grips in D2 steel for about $70.00. As far as I know Cabelas is the only place you can get the D2 Grip.

I started with a Mini-AFCK and it immediately became my favorite folder. Until I later purchased my AFCK.... :-)

Take it easy,

I have carried a Benchmade knife for years and when I bought my 943 about a year ago it quickly became my all time favorite Benchmade. Anyone of the 94x series knives would be my suggestion if you are looking to get a Benchmade, they are in the $110.00 range but well worth the money. The way Benchmade has restructured some of their entry level offerings may not be what people think a Benchmade should be. JMHO.

What?!! Oh, so I take it that we have to be careful with some Spydercos, Kershaws and all other knives not made in the USA? Please.....So far they've just released ONE model made in Taiwan and that's the Ambush. The Monochrome, Pika and others are to soon to follow, but aren't available just yet, so how can you say to be careful? Have you even seen or handled them?

I have a Benchmade Ambush (Made In Taiwan) and it could just very well have been made in the United States but at a much higher cost. It's an extremely well made folder and the Rolling Lock mechanism has been well executed on this model making it a solid working knife. It's part of Benchmade's "Red Class" which are made overseas and are packaged in red boxes instead of blue boxes. What that means is that you get great designs with Benchmade quality at a more affordable price.

Benchmade's says the intent was to produce a class of knives for the casual buyer, but the reality is that not everyone can afford to pay $120-$150 or more on a folder. CRKT broke into the scene producing high quality knives made in Taiwan that the average Joe could afford and they've made a considerable impact with the knife buying public, so it was only a matter of time before Benchmade and other manufacturers took note. These new Red Class models will make a great introductory level of knives for those who have never owned a Benchmade and eventually they will also make their way into the pockets of budget minded knifenuts everywhere.
